**Just to update - I posted a link to this thread on the support
forum where there is already a thread about slowdown issues. In
that thread, in response to one of the other postings, the
platform owner stated that China had been unblocked but may need
to be re-blocked as a source of a major proliferation of bots
which is creating a platform-wide issue.
This is unfortunate as it seems there are a couple of forums
that are primarily China based, and it means they won't be able
to access without a VPN which the majority of those users
probably won't have or know how to set up. So even if it would
primarily solve OUR problem, I understand why they are trying to
avoid doing that.**

**Update: China and Hong Kong were blocked again as there are
too many IP ranges to attempt to manage the bots through a more
targeted response. Please post if you continue to have any
issues.**

It mostly been better for me but still slow. Just now 9:55 am
CDT it hung up so long I refreshed the page and that fixed it.
I’m now in northern MN with a high speed connection. All other
sites work fine.

It's been intermittent for me the last couple of days. It
doesn't last long enough to compare to a different site, but I
do keep getting a "loading" bar across the top when I rate a
post. When I select a thread I often get a delay, sometimes I
get a "can't be displayed" message, very briefly, before the
link displays.
And sometimes it just works.

I’m displaying my lack of tech knowledge here so go ahead and
laugh if you want to.
Is there any chance this is partly because we have a lot of
stuff on this site? I keep noticing for example that the Wordle
thread is over 1000 pages. I know in the world of data storage
and stuff this is tiny so just asking.

Unlikely, but I will check in with the platform owner.
(Plus, we have storage left - I get a notification when it runs
low and I buy more.)

I would never laugh at you. 😊
No.
Storage or data (in the cloud, on the server platform, or
wherever our data is stored) does not get transmitted, only the
link to the resource. The resource is available when you click
the link to it.
Think of Amazon, the largest public facing website I can think
of. All those items would make your browsing experience a real
slog if the actual resource, in this case probably pictures of
the items and a description, came across the network.
The likely causes of any slowdowns we experience are the high
number of bots accessing the site. The amount of bandwidth
allocated to this site from the host plays a part in the speed,
but we've been here long enough to get a feel for the normal
range of speediness. What we're experiencing now doesn't compare
to the response times from even a couple of months ago.
It's been my experience that if there's an entity trying to
break into your website/resources, they won't give up easily. I
had a server that was only a "pass-through" resource. It ran a
program that took your library card from our public facing
website and validated it against the patron database and then
presented the resource (from a 3rd party website/database) to
you. It had no data of its own, yet was hacked. Since there was
nothing there, I wiped the hardware and proceeded to reinstall
from the OS up. WHILE I was rebuilding the new server, the
hackers were back!
Hackers don't give up. We'll probably be dealing with this for a
bit.

Another non-tech person who wondered the same thing. So
MidwestMikkiJ, you're not the only one, heh.

For the past couple of weeks I've had this error (it happens
when I use Tor to connect). Sometimes it happens frequently
enough that I just give up

Here's the error message I get.
Took me a while to remember how to do a screen capture on the
mac.
