Yeah, I was really surprised by the number of them who have no
clue about a bobby or Boris Johnson.
That art challenge... . Huh. Well. Um. there really is only way
to do that kind of puzzle.
So far I'm liking Taylor and Isaiah and I hope that they don't
show up in last place tonight.
Kim & Penn have the potential to become REALLY annoying REALLY
fast.
And if Sheri doesn't murderize Akbar before this is over, he
should count his blessings. Because I would have already had a
significant CTJ talk with him about how he was thinking about me
or talking to the camera about me - while I was right farking
there.

- Yeah, I was actually embarrassed by the ignorance on display.
- I've seen some of the Kim and Penn videos when they come
across my FB feed, and they are somewhat amusing. So, I'm hoping
that they keep their public image in mind and not make me
actively dislike them.
- Yeah, Akbar and Sheri were cringey. They seem to make an
effort clean it up in subsequent episodes.

The Race restarts tonight!!!
Am rather happy with the info I found that 2 of the eliminated
teams that I like will be back because some of the original
teams couldn't make it back.

I actually like that they need to drive themselves. The charter
planes seems to be a limitation, since one of the challenges was
always trying to find an advantage of a flight that left
earlier, or took a shorter more direct route, and this just
gives them the pileup of who made it to the rest stop
soonest/will leave earliest, completely wipes out any ability to
find an advantage/get screwed by everyone getting there ahead of
you and needing to try for a standby spot.
But more self-driving, can't rely on a cabdriver to get you
where you gotta go? I'd love to see them keep that in some form
in future seasons. I mean, there have always been minor points
of it here and there. But having it as an integral part of the
game and needing to actually have navigation skills in a
multi-country race seems like something that should be part of
it.

Yes, the removal of commercial flights makes a huge difference
in regard to bad luck and strategy both. Same with self-driving,
actually.

I always thought the commercial flights were a good way to level
the playing field.

First thoughts before beginning the episode:
- I liked the two teams that were brought back, too. However, I
also ranked them as most likely to be eliminated fairly early on
unless they spent the quarantine time assessing what went wrong
the first time and taking steps to correct it. My hope was that
they did that.
- I was not unhappy that the newly dating team did not come
back. They were not well matched and watching them discover that
on a trip like this was painful. (Oh, apparently they broke up
during the hiatus. No surprise.)
- The married couple who I think had several children did not
return and neither did a team of two men who I think were
friends. I'm neutral on those. In fact I can hardly remember the
male team. The 4th team that did not return was Taylor and Isiah
who I thought were personable, and who I would have liked to see
return.
- Also in the hope category - was hoping that the married couple
who were so disrespectful of each other used the quarantine to
figure out how to do better on that.
- So far, I like the team with the two young men, Dusty & Ryan,
I think. It will be interesting to see if their upbeat
personalities can hold up to the stresses going forward. It's
easy to be happy when things are going well. I also like the
twins and the father/daughter teams. I will admit to not being
optimistic about that last team.
- Aren't there still fewer teams than there would have been?
(One moment while I google. Yes. We should have started with 9
and we are starting with 7.) Phil didn't mention what they might
be doing different. Longer legs so that the number of episodes
is the same? Extra non-elimination legs? Fewer episodes?
Thoughts after watching the episode (spoilers ahead):
- Oh, boo. The team I was pretty sure would be eliminated first
was. Puzzle type challenges are not their strong suit, and I
guess they didn't work on that during the quarantine.
- The bickering married couple are still struggling with that.
He berates; she replies with "shut up". In addition, they are
not showing themselves to be strong strategists. I predict that
they will not last long.
- Happy to see my favorite teams do well especially the guys and
the twins. Father did better on the hike than I expected him to,
but they are still getting lost, which I think will ultimately
be their downfall - probably soon.
Whew. I don't usually have so much to say, but I guess it's a
result of knowing the teams because of the earlier episodes but
still not enough to figure where they all might stand.

Yeah, I would have liked to see Taylor and Isaiah return also.
Also not upset that the Love Island team did not return. It's
ALLLLLL of why I don't watch those shows, starting with The
Bachelor. That's an artificial environment. Love and partnership
has to survive in the real world and there's a reason we have
this concept of the vacation fling - because it's an intense
relationship that would just never work in the real world of
every day life. Might you stumble across someone in an
environment like that to TRY a sustained relationship? Maybe.
Probably better if you're not immediately long distance (which
is almost guaranteed by the way most of those shows operate) as
soon as you pull out of the artificial environment. But the idea
that you are going to manage to find someone that you can commit
to for the long haul as soon as the show is over... I hate the
very premise because that is just not how relationships work in
any realistic manner.
<steps off soapbox>
And hey! Celebrity Big Brother is coming soon!

Also, yes, you would have hoped that Shari and Akbar would have
looked up during the hiatus and said "we didn't do these things
well. How can we figure out to do them better?"
But... I also suspect that might have happened to some extent if
they'd actually SEEN the episodes and what they looked like to
the rest of the world. But they didn't, so for them, this is all
their normal how they get along stuff.

Ah, I had no idea about the dating couple. Makes sense now. I
wish they wouldn't try to do crossovers with these shows. It
works OK with Survivor/Amazing Race and maybe it might with
Tough as Nails, too. But when they throw in the housemates/love
ones, I want to barf. There is a reason I've never watched them
and why I only watch the few that I do. Don't they have enough
applicants from real life?
