28 Years Later trailer/Boots by Rudyard Kipling
By: CaviaPorcellus Date: December 13, 2024, 1:31 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Continuing the trend of extremely unnecessary sequels to 20+
year old movies, 28 Days Later (2002) has a new sequel coming
out next June - 28 Years Later (even though it's only 23 years
since the first movie. Whatever.)
I'm on the fence about watching the sequel, because 28 Weeks
Later was Not Great, and also the virus from the original movie
was basically Super Rabies, with the human host bodies starving
to death in a regular amount of time for a human body to do
that. So why would the virus last longer than a few weeks
anyway?
THAT SAID, holy crap, the trailer! What an awesome trailer! It
gives away no plot points. It explains... nothing at all. And
the audio, rather than the usual creepy instrumentals or breathy
pop cover, is a 110 year old recording of a Rudyard Kipling
poem, delivered by Broadway-turned-film-star Taylor Holmes.

Or, if you'd prefer, just the text of the poem:
1
We're foot—slog—slog—slog—sloggin' over Africa
Foot—foot—foot—foot—sloggin' over Africa
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up and down again!)
There's no discharge in the war!
2
Seven—six—eleven—five—nine—an'—twenty mile to—day—
Four—eleven—seventeen—thirty—two the day before
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up and down again!)
There's no discharge in the war!
3
Don't—don't—don't—don't—look at what's in front of you.
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again);
Men—men—men—men—men go mad with watchin' 'em,
An' there's no discharge in the war!
4
Count—count—count—count—the bullets in the bandoliers.
If—your—eyes—drop—they will get atop o' you!
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up and down again)
There's no discharge in the war!
5
Try—try—try—try—to think o' something different—
Oh—my—God—keep—me from goin' lunatic!
(Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again!)
There's no discharge in the war!
6
We—can—stick—out—'unger, thirst, an' weariness,
But—not—not—not—not the chronic sight of 'em—
Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again,
An' there's no discharge in the war!
7
'Tain`t—so—bad—by—day because o' company,
But night—brings—long—strings—o' forty thousand million
Boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again
There's no discharge in the war!
8
I—'ave—marched—six—weeks in 'Ell an' certify
It—is—not—fire—devils, dark, or anything,
But boots—boots—boots—boots—movin'up an' down again,
An' there's no discharge in the war!
Holy fuck, I haven't even seen the other movies and I'm
generally meh on zombie stuff, but you're not kidding about that
trailer. Literal chills. Using that audio was a stroke of
brilliance, that's like 100x more tense and creepy than any
music could be.
