Makes me wonder what else the employee will let you get away
with. Play with the espresso machine? Make change in the cash

I don’t know why, but this particular letter isn’t sending me
down the “slippery slope” train of thought.
I think it’s weird but not a character indictment.

I kind of get the philosophical debate of this subject, but
actually having an ongoing argument with a colleague about it?
Not even a good friend or spouse? That seems weird to me. Let it
go.
And having worked at a restaurant where I was the one who had to
stay until the last customer left, I think saying absolutely
nothing for 2 HOURS after you've closed is incredibly strange.

Especially when it's a new schedule and customers are unlikely
to be paying attention!!

Flippancy aside, I agree this isn't a major deal, either for
LW's colleague or the employee, and certainly nothing for LW to
argue about. Maybe LW just doesn't like colleague and this is
how it's showing.

I think it’s a cumulative impact situation. The LW is house
sitting for 4 dogs, cleaning, and organizing for a month. For
free.

more stuff for Chatter to clean up after? No, I don't think
it's just about solo use of the pool. It is an imposition on
chatter who is not the homeowner, isn't friends with the
neighbors. The neighbors can swim someplace else while the
homeowners are away.

Also - with the neighbors there, does that make corralling the
dogs harder? We have two dogs - when anyone is in the pool and
the dogs are outside, one of them jumps in and swims circles
around them, and the other one runs around the edge nervously
playing lifeguard. So LW may also be having to keep the dogs
inside and/or watching them more closely while they’re outside.
We hire a house sitter when we go away, and we always cancel the
housekeepers during that time and are very explicit about when
the gardener and pool guy will be here, because that’s something
you have to plan around with dogs that have access to the yard.

Spanish, Italian, Latin, Hebrew. Sounds a bit multi-cultural to
