I think it was lovely of the coffee shop worker to let Friend
work, if that's actually allowed, which I can't understand how
it could be.
Does anybody but me wonder if Friend's prickly response is in
part a reaction to a scolding from LW?
LW, try honey instead of vinegar.

Dark humor ahead:
I was supposed to go to New Orleans with my FWB which is
obviously canceled. Yesterday I was getting my refunds for my
plane tickets and made mention of it on my family group chat.
Patrick was like “what refunds are you getting? Can you FEMA
dick?”

I just Googled dog-sitting costs in our area and got this:
The hourly starting pay for Baltimore dog sitters averages out
at $13 an hour, but if you need holiday, weekend, or overnight
care, that rate can double or triple. The average cost for local
dog sitting agencies is $70 a night for two walks and 12 hours
of company.
Bet it's a lot more expensive for 4 dogs.

I have been wondering if the homeowner is even aware that their
neighbors are basically taking control of the pool use and
expecting the dog sitter to maintain the pool for them.

The problem here is that this wasn't clearly outlined in the
first place. LW is housesitting for four (4) dogs. That's an
absolute minimum of two hundred bucks per day.

Some days I think one small dog will drive me off the deep end.
Can't imagine weeks on end with four dogs. Not to mention the
cleanup detail.
I wonder what degree of relative it is who also "struggles with
housework." Mom? So the neighbors think the sitter is just
their buddy's offspring and they can overrule them? Cousin?
Sister?

with. Play with the espresso machine? Make change in the cash
register?

I don’t know why, but this particular letter isn’t sending me
down the “slippery slope” train of thought.
I think it’s weird but not a character indictment.

I pay my longtime sitter $80-100 a night depending, for one dog.
I gave her more when my ill dog was still alive and there were
multiple medications and other issues involved. She lives in
and has the full use of my modest abode. Once I had a lawn guy
come and I felt apologetic at that disruption for her; I would
not expect her to put up with people socializing in the yard.
LW is getting the short end of the stick in this arrangement
even without the pool hangers-on.

When I used to go to the dog beach, the walkers there charged
$20 for a 2 hour beach walk (plus transportation time to and
from). That was 7 years ago. (And sometimes the walkers had 5 or
more dogs at a time)

I would have gone over at 1:55 and been like “I’m closing in 5
minutes, can I get you anything to go before you leave?”
Then I would have put the chairs upside down on the rest of the
tables and mopped.
