I'm probably in the minority, but I think when you housesit you
treat the house as the owner would. If they'd let everyone in a
5 block radius use the pool, you do too. It's not your house.
You want a house where you get to use the pool in privacy? Pay
for an Airbnb.
The problem here is that this wasn't clearly outlined in the
first place. LW is housesitting for four (4) dogs. That's an
absolute minimum of two hundred bucks per day.
Let LW have the place to themself.

I think the problem in this letter is that the LW was viewing
using the pool as part of the compensation for house sitting,
dog sitting, cleaning, and organizing.
I don’t think the LW wants an Air BnB with a pool. I think the
LW wants this specific pool because she thought it was in
exchange for her labor.
The mistake from start to finish was unmatched expectations.
Agree. I just don't think LW should override relative's
expectations with hers because she's mad.

And again Hax goes straight to eleven/GoF with a husband who
sounds like he's a doink.
I zoned out during that question because it sounded like a
vent/garbage collecting against her husband.
I think they need to get an overnight sitter and talk less and
fuck more.
This is also good advice for 90% of Hax letters. Adjust
expectations, talk less, fuck more

Coming in hot on the coffee shop letter:
I think a big tip is in order. I also think it’s extremely weird
the coffee shop employee remained open 2 extra hours without
saying anything.
I would not make this the litmus test for a friends character.

She won't make this mistake again. It's a big job. Don't do it
for free. Lesson learned. Also, if those relatives don't pay her
anyway they're total dicks.

For a month long house keeping arrangement, I actually think
it’s okay for the LW to text her relative and say that she needs
a night in the pool solo and will communicate that with the
neighbors. Then keep the home owner in the loop on all
communication with the neighbors.
If the home owners don’t want to be this involved because they
are on vacation, they can pay for a company next time.

I wonder why LW doesn't text or call their relative and discuss
the situation with the pool. Like, boy your neighbors sure are
here a lot! And make sure that's not a surprise and they are
taking advantage of relative being out of town.
If relative is fully aware and ok with the situation, asking if
it's ok to set aside some time to not have them there. The
relative should back LW up on this in gratitude for the
fabulous, personal, hands on discounted pet sitting.
It sounds like the homeowner likes to have people there and
would be angry if LW turned them away. Which is fine if the
homeowner is...home. I would not expect a pet-sitter to have
to interact with complete strangers day after day.
Makes you wonder why none of the neighbors are doing the pet
sitting, if they are on the spot so much.

totally have been too afraid to tell the guy they were closing.
