College sports are moving from a school/coach driven model to
athlete-driven. Time will tell if it’s a bad thing or just a
       thing.

Interesting to see where he ends up. That can't help his
       reputation any.
On the other hand college sports at that level is now a business
and business's will employee people they know are arrogant and
self-centered and ignore it because they also deliver - at least
       in the short term.
And college sports is also by definition short term.

College sports is now up to 6 years; with a possibility of 7 in
some cases. It's longer than the average pro career in almost
       every sport.
Officially, you can play 4 years out of 6. But remember, those
two "non-playing" years can include playing in up to one-third
of the season without counting as one of your four years

Still, almost no player good enough to make the pros in their
sport will stay for more than 4 years, if that. Pro careers are
too short risk injury while still in college to stay longer.
I'm most familiar with hockey and very very few good players
stay for more than 4 years. Maybe a goalie but they tend to not
get to the top until they are older anyway. A top forward starts
getting pressure to move to the pros after a year, defense two
       years.

Men's basketball is, and will stay, one and done.
Baseball is unusual in that there is a rule, enforced in the CBA
with the Players' Union, that says a player can sign straight
out of high school, with no college. But if he goes to college,
he can't sign with the pros for three years.

I’m so excited but probably only @armybrat will care…
Today is our son’s 20th birthday. He is a sophomore at UC
Berkeley. Tonight they announced that ESPN Gameday will be in
Berkeley next Saturday for the first! time! ever! He is just
ecstatic and I’m so happy for him!
Also not gonna lie that I did just quick check flights to
       Oakland…

What is the world coming to when, out of all the colleges I
attended, Berkeley has the best football team? (Purdue has
already fired their million dollar per year offensive
coordinator. Mostly because their offense was pretty damned
       offensive.)
       Go Bears!!!

It's OU vs. Texas! Texas is ranked #1, and we are barely in the
top 25. But we always have a chance in this game.

In the new Big Ten, size matters. Specifically, the size of your
local airport. If a trip to the other coast for a conference
game means your players have to ride on a bus for a couple of
       hours, it diminishes your status:

Seriously - the Penn State football coach wants the runway at
the State College airport lengthened. Big planes, filled with
fuel, can't take off from the State College airport. They have
to bus to Harrisburg first, and that's damned embarrassing. Less
embarrassing than having to stop halfway across the country to
refuel. But come on people - it's the Big Ten!!
Purdue always prided itself on having it's own airport on the
University campus, where folks like Neil Armstrong learned to
fly. Teams just fly in and out of campus, direct. But somehow it
hasn't helped the football team. We suck.

that would have been a great thing to consider before putting
all those teams in the same league.
