Was someone SERIOUSLY after these guys, or is it just a coincide

On the CNN site there are two European stories right near each
other:
A yacht was struck [s]by a torpedo[/s] ([sub]never mind[/sub])
off the Italian coast.

One of the missing is a tech entrepreneur who was involved in a
fraud trial, accused by HP.
And someone linked to him was recently killed by a car in the
UK. (At least there they have the driver in custody.)

A torpedo? Or a tornado?
I read it was a water spout, which I believe is like a tornado
in the water.

I follow @esysman on youtube and he's got a good (better?)
report about the yacht sinking near Sicily. His report had a
screenshot that referenced a tornado.
We were wondering how they wouldn't be prepared for it. But then
I remembered a different youtuber just a couple of days ago in
the same region. They had a charter and had their water toys out
and the captain comes on and says there's a storm approaching
and they may have to pull up their toys. And they did.
So it seems that area is prone to sudden bad weather.
Esysman had a clip of the interview of the guy who rescued 15
people off that yacht.
