       NPD data breach

Any of you all worried about this news, and scrambling to freeze
       credit, etc.?
So far I’m not, but plan to ask financial advisor since have
       appt tomorrow.
I’ve had free credit monitoring for years since all my info
including my fingerprints was hacked in 2014 when I worked for
the feds. And we scrupulously check bank accts and credit card
       statements.

I guess I won't worry too much about the homeless? guy a
neighbor chased off who was going through people's recycling
looking for envelopes with financial data.

I generally keep my credit frozen unless I'm wanting to apply
for a loan or a card. Once I've done that I lock it down again.

This is another of those things that I can’t get too concerned
about. If it gets me it gets me. But the odds are that it won’t.
I’ve been in so many data breaches now that I can’t even keep
track of all the free credit monitoring I have.
I look at my credit report periodically now that it’s all on
line. I look at my bank statement frequently. My credit cards
all tell me when they are used. What more should I do?

When I've been on a hacking list in the past, I've received a
letter offering free credit monitoring for one year and then an
"opportunity" to pay annually for it going forward. It seems
like a scam to me. First you let my personal information be
vulnerable to a hack. And then you want me to pay you to
       protect myself.

I think the 1 year is required by either law or regulation, not
       sure which.

We asked financial advisors about data breach and they said they
weren’t too concerned and had not frozen their own credit with
this most recent headline and attention grabbing revelation.
One had a partner who had frozen hers a few yrs back due to her
taxes not being able to be filed, as someone else had filed
under her SSN! So that’s understandable. I tend to not get super
alarmed and just monitor stuff regularly anyway.

I'm less concerned about big data breaches, because I'm not
being targeted. I am more concerned with card scanners at gas
stations. To the point I don't use my debit card unless I
absolutely have to. Otherwise it's a credit card. I'd rather
       scammers take someone else's money.

I'll go you one further - I don't even have a debit card!
