There's beautiful photography in this piece, too.
The balloon cauldron is probably my favorite 'landmark' of these
Olympics.

Did you know that art used to be part of Olympic medal
competition?
I didn't until recently.
For 38 years beginning in 1912, gold, silver, and bronze
medals were up for grabs
in Olympic art competitions across five categories:
architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture.
This set of awards was named the “Pentathlon of the Muses,”
its winners decided by an international jury.
I love the poster from the 1912 games in Stockholm.

I have an almost phobic fear of flame and gas. The idea of a
floating gas fired caldron gave me the willies even from an
ocean away. I don’t like hot air balloons. I was quite relieved
to find out it was lights and mist. Genius. And beautiful.

So far this is the most boring closing ceremony we’ve ever seen.
We’ve both fallen asleep. I recorded it so if I want, I can see
what I missed.

Or play it when I have insomnia.

I had a love/hate relationship with the Olympics this summer. I
hated that I could only watch some of the events live on the
weekends. But it's Paris. I mostly loved. Most of the events
were so exciting. I'm not sure about Break Dancing.
