Watching the men's gymnastics (team finals) on Peacock. It's
without commentary, which seems for the best. But it can freeze
if I do too much rewinding.
Each of the apparatus is separate, so that's potentially a full
day of viewing. I wish they would assemble a clip of the top
performers for each team, just to highlight all the excellence.
Floor and high bar are my favorites (Richardson just had a very
strong performance on bar). I'll skip rings, probably just watch
US, Japan and China on vault, pommel horse and parallel bars.

Standard abbreviations when Sweden plays Denmark:
       SWE-DEN
Remaining letters after the abbreviations are removed:
       DEN-MARK

I only caught some of the NBC (taped) coverage last night, but
it was long enough to love the guys ( all new names to me).
What a great team of really cool kids. So proud of their hard
       work.

And they average age 22. They could be around for a while.

Team USA Women takes the gold in gymnastics.
       🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
Italy, in a surprise showing, takes silver
       and Brazil takes bronze.
       That was fun to watch.
       Great competition.
       eta---
Italy's win is their first Olympic team medal in women’s
       gymnastics since 1928
and Brazil's win is its first ever Olympic team medal in women’s
       gymnastics.
Lots of excitement in the arena and on the floor as that all
       began to happen.

News from my mom is that my maternal grandmother's youngest
sister's grand daughter has made it to the semi-finals in
       rowing.
I don't actually know her name as I've never met her although I
know her mother and her grandmother. And although you would
think I could just find her using her last name, I don't know
Gayle's married name - just her maiden name
If I was watching the Olympics, I would be cheering on Canada's
       rowing teams

A photographer captured the perfect shot
of an Olympic surfer's record-breaking ride.
  HTML https://www.npr.org/sections/the-picture-show/2024/07/31/g-s1-14395/olympic-tahiti-surfer-photo
       So cool.
I've really enjoyed watching the surfing, though it takes
       patience
since there are long lags between the action unless you're
       watching recorded highlights.

Since I watch the prime time coverage I've been avoiding this
       thread during the day.
But I've come to say that I'm really happy that swimmers who are
not from the US or Australia are winning a lot of races. For so
many years the US or Australia had the strongest teams and a few
swimmers from other countries would win a race.
But this year there are some phenomenal swimmers from around the
world. The French kid is amazing. The 30 year Swedish woman who
won the 100 Freestyle was so excited because she wasn't even
planning to swim it since 30 is too old for that length.

That is awesome and the timers in pants, long sleeves, and hats
       are very entertaining.
