[member=46]LabPartner[/member], it really got me too. I keep
giggling at it every time I think about it.

       Dear Puppy,
It is probably too soon for another Dear Puppy letter, but oh
       well.
Please don't cry and stomp inconsolably every time a new best
friend ever doesn't stop to say hello -- or, worse, does stop to
say hello and then departs a minute later. It may feel like the
end of the world, but I assure you it is not. Another new best
friend ever will come along in the time it takes for you to bite
the hand that feeds you. Yes, really -- that often!!!
Also, this is delicate, but it needs to be said. It has come to
our attention that you are a bit of a racist. Yes, that's how
it looks when you bark nonstop at people of color and are
       (sorta) polite to others.

HR has asked that you keep Thursday open to repeat your
mandatory sensitivity training. No, treats will not be
       provided.
       Sincerely,
       CEO of the Apartment

You know what you have to do, right? About the profiling?
I am embarrassed to say that I'm willing to bet a hundred bucks
that LCP has never seen a POC.

I figured I'd distract him with a treat as they approach. But
would love to hear your idea.
Cyrus has been around a lot of POC, including in SC. And our
building is probably +50% POC. So he has no excuse for the way
       he's behaving.

The best way is to approach as many of them as possible.
Explain that you are socializing your puppy, and ask them if
they would be willing to offer him a treat. Start with people
you actually know if you can. Use high value treats.
If it's too soon for that, as in, if he's actively aggressive
and you don't think he'd accept a treat, tell me and we can talk
       about the next thing.
Do you guys work "watch me"?

Oh, he meets quite a few every day, and he'll accept treats from
anyone. He is mostly excited to meet people, including POC.
It's more like he scolds POC if they don't stop to pet him, but
gives whites a free pass. He's not aggressive with anyone, but
will try to jump on them out of enthusiasm, which is frustrating
       enough.
I don't know "watch me." What is it?

Ah, OK that's not so bad! "Watch me" will actually help. It's
       attention work.
       1. Hold a treat in front of your nose.
       2. Say "watch me!"
       3. Praise and treat.
       4. Repeat one million times, extending the amount of time
between the command and the treat, then fade the treat.
       5. Add the treats back in as you add distractions, then fade the
       treats again.
You want him to "check in" frequently on his own too, so if you
are walking and he randomly looks at you, praise and treat. Of
course, you will have to be watching him in order to catch him
       doing this.

Ok, thanks! Not loving the "repeat one million times" but I
guess that's what I signed up for.

Ha! It is. Also there may be just a touch of hyperbole.
       You can do this!

       Dear Puppy,
Yes, I moved to the sofa around 2AM because my back hurt.
Yes, I understand that this is cause for celebration, as the
sofa is across the room from your crate.
Did you need to celebrate quite so hard when Youngest came down
and let you out? Did you need to celebrate by flying across the
room and leaping enthusiastically onto my sleeping face?
Yes, I do love you. Really. Really, I do. You can stop
       licking me now!
