I was just going to ask how we were going to do this.

Oooof, chatter whose husband lied about why he was fired.
I don't know what I'd do. The issue is his lack of integrity in
the work place and how does that translate to his personal life.
I'd have massive trust issues. Counseling for sure, but not sure
this is something I'd recover from.
Would you lie to your kids about it? I don't know about that
       one.

I would be vague, but I wouldn't straight up lie.

" One of the worst parts is finding out about his lack of
integrity. I didn’t want our children knowing that so we lied "
I have no idea how I'd handle this, so I'm not criticizing the
lw, but that really stood out to me.

Is it me, or is Hax just meaner now? I mean, there are two
sides to every story and Hax isn't even considering the other
side: Was Husband the breadwinner? Had he been carrying the
family financially for decades and gotten burnt out? Were the
financial goals really family goals, or were they goals that LW
had set for the both of them? Could fear and shame, rather than
just being a morally bankrupt asshole, have played a role? I
mean, look how LW reacted once the truth came out.
YES, I am definitely making this up. Defnitely. After watching
my XSIL harangue my brother for decades about how he didn't make
enough money to fund her lavish and expensive tastes I'm a
little bit trigger happy on that subject.
I do agree that counseling is in order, this is definitely a big
one. This family is not a team.

I'm just the worst person ever for not getting all panty twisted
over paying for kid's college? So they'll have to take out
loans. Just like I did. Big whoop. Welcome to adulthood where
shit doesn't always work out the way you thought it would.

Yes to Hax being meaner. She seems snippy and impatient.

I'm not sure not telling the kids anything resembling the truth
is helpful. They now can resent Dad chose to retire rather than
prioritizing their education. Something like "there was an
irreversible parting of the ways" with his employer is closer to
the truth without revealing too much.
I find Hax a little sanguine on "there are cheaper options" .
Kids are teens. Money they thought they had to plan their
education with has just evaporated. Yes, they can still get an
       education. It's harder now though.
