Heddy, how do you come by your knowledge of the game? I watched
baseball with my dad and my grampa and then by myself and over
the years I've picked up a ton from the analysts. Ditto
football, which I watch with Mr Q and my boys, plus the boys
played from age 7 through high school. I still don't understand
what a dime package is, but I can understand why a certain
corner is a great matchup for a certain wideout, etc. There's a
lot of time between plays to listen to the explanations.
But hockey goes so fast I can't learn enough to make it
meaningful. It's not interesting just to see who scores a goal,
I want to understand why a particular defensive formation works
against a particular line, which matchups are key and why, etc
       etc etc.

Didn't the Bears pass on Mahomes? Maybe their GM stinks?

Aaron Judge is hard to root against. I just don't like Yankees
       fans' sense of entitlement.
I don't know much about Renfroe. What makes him special?
Schwarber isn't usually injured so much. His defensive
adventures and strikeouts got to me sometimes while he was a
Cub, though. I'm curious to see if he can become a good first
       baseman (if need be).

Heh. The Bears have had some really bad drafts. There were
questions about how well Mahomes would hold up in the NFL,
though. Running QBs tend to get hurt a lot.

I didn't know Renfroe existed before this year, but he's been
nothing short of awesome defensively and he's hit like 85 RBI
and 27 dingers, which I did not expect.
I love a player with a cannon for an arm, I gotta say.

Well then protect them! Mahomes is the face of the new game,
and Andy Reid knows how to use him. He knows when to slide,
       too. Incredible football IQ.

The Bears are not the Patriots, and their coach isn't namd Bill.
The Pats have a system they can plug people into. The Bears...
       don't.
And let's not assume the Pats' new starter will do great, esp at
first. He's got poise, but most Alabama qbs flame out in the
       NFL.
Brett Favre is a jerkwad. I prefer to act like he doesn't exist.
But the media keeps asking him stupid questions about what GB
       "should" do. Gah.

I really like both Mahomes and his coach.
Tom Brady, not so much. He plays golf with the previous resident
of the White House, after all. Gotta admit he's got football
       smarts, though...

I don't have to like any of these players as humans. If I set
the bar that high I'd probably hate most of them. Here's my
entire metric: are they entertaining to watch?
Disclaimer: if they actually break the law then of course they
need to pay, same as anybody else. But, for example, Tyreek
Hill seems to be an absolute travesty of a human being. This
does not make him any less entertaining to watch on the field.

I was really a fan of DeShaun Watson on the field, it's kinda
mini-tragic when they are so awful off the field.
