An ARGGGH! Moment
By: animaniactoo Date: August 13, 2021, 7:24 pm

Alrighty, so... Scritchy and I are heading for Florida in a
couple of weeks. His family is there... and he has exactly one
relatively sane sister there. His dad isn't bad either. But when
it comes to the subjects of either Trump or COVID, the rest of
them way on the other side of the spectrum from us.
To the point that well, he doesn't do Facebook, but I do, so a
number of his family members are FB friends with me and we
sometimes have relatively civil political disagreements. He
asked me to stop because it was going to alienate him from his
family and I said... okay, but 1) sometimes it's really hard to
let what they post pass unchallenged, and 2) sometimes his uncle
posts directly to me, shares something directly to my homepage,
etc. I showed him some of the stuff I was talking about, and he
told me that I had to stop arguing with idiots on the internet.
I said "Uh. You mean your family?" Him: "that's what I said"
Okay.... and his mom quit fb so that makes it easier. But our
younger son lives with them (which is part of why we want to
visit beyond him wanting to see his parents), and we know that
well... let's say they have probably not been too great on
following health and safety guidelines based on stuff she's
said. He asked to book a hotel and NOT stay with them, so we're
doing that - with a kitchen so that we're not reliant on his
parents/takeout, etc. He told older son today we may never leave
the hotel based on what's going in Florida and our assessment of
what they're doing/taking seriously (older son gets this, he was
down there for a couple of weeks in May last year, got a nice
first hand look).
But his cousin's wife just posted this on FB, and um... now I
have to let him know that we might not be able to do any
visiting with that branch of his family either. Sigh...
So I find it absolutely freaking ridiculous that BPS is
only making non vaccinated kids quarantine....THAT LITERALLY
MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL! The vaccine does NOT make you immune, you
can still catch and transmit the virus but they just get to keep
on going to school and sports because they have a "vaccine" that
does nothing to stop the spread??? OOOkkkkkkk sure
🙄😡🖕
Also not looking to have any vaccine debates with anyone, I will
never inject that poison into me or my kids and if you don't
like that then gladly leave my page... Don't really
care!
Mercy.
I'm also headed to Florida, end of September, if I get a third
shot and maybe a good antibodies test. And Disney stays open.
Sorry about the crazy peeps south of the Mason Dixon. I'm not
responsible but I am sorry.

I'm sorry, ani. I grew up in Florida, ages ago. Visited that
first Christmas in college, and haven't been back since. I can
only imagine the frustration. :(

I am so sorry ani. It is heartbreaking to watch this kind of
thing happening every day. I hope they all make it anyway and I
hope you and yours will stay as safe as you can, whatever you
decide to do.

Well, getting the Delta variant will make them a believer! I
guess all you can do is maybe offer to meet them on their porch
while social distancing with masks, that is if you even feel
comfortable with that. It's tough. My step-sister is a
breakthrough Covid victim right now. Fully vaxxed but sick.
She is got it from an unvaxxed friend who got it from their
unvaxxed and now hospitalized boss. My son (who has had Covid)
also refuses to get vaxxed. I don't get it. We are back to
wearing masks at work when meeting the public. I don't need/want
second Covid hospital stay.
BTW, can anyone help me figure out how to access this form on my
cellphone? I admit I'm computer Luddite, probably more of a
Neanderthal. My computer knowledge is this: turn the button
on. That's about it!

I can't seem to make that work on my android. Have tried
several times in the Google search bar, but it just stays blank.
Darn. Since I won't have access to laptop until Monday, I won't
see any replies until then! Thanks.

So sorry you're up against that, Animaniac, but glad that
Scritchy is giving you license to disengage and ignore. Take
care of yourself - because they clearly aren't going to.

Hey Ani -
If you are going to be near the Sarasota area, PM me, I’ll pass
along a few tips for you in this area. What to avoid stuff like
that.
So I’m vaccinated and most people in my personal life are too.
But after returning from a work trip this week, I texted my
supervisor and told him I’m not going to be traveling for the
next 2-3 weeks. And then will reevaluate because Delta is out of
control. He responded and said good for you!

Oh dear. Why do you have to visit, again?
The good news is that the vaccine should protect you. Very very
well against severe disease, and pretty well against
symptomatic disease.
So if you're going to visit you can choose to visit who you
want.
Look on the bright side: you may well have an opportunity to
build natural immunity on top of your vaccine immunity.
