I wondered if it was my special admin powers that allowed me to
get to the chat.
As for the channel, I was reading this thread and then I clicked
on the Chat link across the top and a new window opened. And now
my view the chat button has (1) after chat.

This may be a dumb question, but what's the purpose of the chat
room?
How does the chat room differ from the thread of the day or
PMing?

It's live conversation. I expect that we might start using it to
avoid having the 14 imbedded quote boxes when the conversations
get to be really active.

@kathy: chat's pretty funny - it moves really fast. for some
reason, other than the first day it was launched, i've not seen
anybody hang out in there for any amount of time. which is too
bad, because it's real time and makes our regular chattering
seem slow by comparison : )

That's how it worked the day Ani opened it: we all rushed over
to try it out. Since then, tho, I've never seen anyone in there
at the same time when I popped in to take a look around, sadly.

Yah, I think we’ll need to use it for some dedicated purposes
like a Friday happy hour, and I absolutely plan on hanging out
in there during the live chat even if nobody votes for that
option in the poll.
