Sasha - my new Devon Rex baby

I wrote about Frankie before. She was my beautiful Devon Rex
baby who passed on this Spring.
I selected her breed because they didn't shed and I was tired of
seeing Timmie's hair everywhere. It also intrigued me that many
were like dogs with loyalty and playing fetch.
Frankie didn't shed. The same can't be said for Sasha or even
Coco who is marginally related to Frankie.
I discovered in October that I was allergic to cats and it was
getting worse. But when Harmony passed I discovered most of my
problems went away so its just DSH cats that are the problem.
Devon Rexes are potentially hypoallergenic and for me they
apparently are. So I started looking for a new breeder
immediately because Frankie's breeder stopped. I knew I might
not get a kitten until next year even if I started now. And
during that search I saw an advertisement for Sasha. 3 year old
retired queen with asthma. Not a kitten. Not even a true
calico. But I told Mr Ryder that she was the one. We were
approved and I flew up to Chicago to get here (and back The same
day).
She is the sweetest yet feistiest girl. She has cuddles all the
time for you but huffs at you when she's not happy. She was
what the doctor ordered and despite her not fitting what I
wanted. She was what I needed. Say hi to my sweet Sasha.

She's absolutely lovely. I hope you get to enjoy each other's

Sweet!
We have a Sasha too. Siamese. Lynx point. Not pure bred, but I
got lucky at a local shelter.

I have had a lot of shelter cats over my lifetime. They make
great cats. Unfortunately my allergies are now so bad that
there is no 'just living with it" short of going in for shots.
We went from having two cats with unusual names to having two
cats with the most common names on the planet. His parents dog
is also named Sasha. Coco is Mr. Rider's cat so he had final
word on her name. I might have considered changing Sasha's name
because of the dog except she responded super well to being
called (not motivated by food at all) so we figured we best
stick to it.

I went to the vet today trying not to worry to much.
It turns out she somehow hurt herself on her paw and it got
infected. They couldn't pull off the scabbing (skin is delicate
and it was hurting Sasha too much) but they cleaned it out.
She was given an antibiotic and anti inflammatory shot and put
in a collar so she doesn't worry at it. I have to return next
week to get it rechecked. They said not to worry. Just needed
to knock down the infection. But I am still worried because I
expected her paw not to still smell. Might need to call
tomorrow.
And the collar is funny and sad. She has dashed through the
house upset banging into all kinds of things. Then she spent a
lot of time walking backwards trying to get out of it. And then
finally she settled down and passed out on my shoulder. She's
been there for more than an hour. It feels like she might be
wiped out from the stress and meds.

Went back for her wound healing checkup today and discovered the
problem was a partially detached toenail....probably got caught
up in a fall off the scratching post. She is the klutziest cat
ever. Last time they couldn't really examine the wound because
she was in so much pain. This time they pulled the claw out.
The wound has reopened a bit so more time in the cone and
another couple days of Hibicleanse soaking. Hope to have the
cone completely off her on Sunday.

Can you guess what sound is more important than the shaking of
the snack bag?
Why the sound of the dryer door opening.... She waits to see if
I'm putting clothes in or taking them out. And when its clear
in taking them out she is right there to dig into them. And dig
into the pile she does. She will hiss at you if you try to stop
her.
And lots of hissing and carrying on if I should try to pull at
an article of clothing in her part of the pile. Its a bit of a
game to try to get everything out from under her without her
getting snarky.

Now matter how bad my day sucks. It usually ends something like
this...which magically makes it better.

We have had 5 vomiting episodes since Sunday at supper. 3 were
by Sasha and 2 were of unknown origin but we are assuming Sasha.
I think the first one we found had a bit of green in it but I
didn't really pay attention because I assumed it was Coco who
does throw up occasionally for no reason.
But this last one by Sasha had a piece of what looked like grass
in it. It can't be grass so its a Spider plant leaf? Leaf stem
brought on our shoes?
She must be eating something that doesn't agree with her but I
have no idea what. Spider plant got all its babies cut off and
I vacuumed the house to try to pick up anything that might
interest her.
We were already going to the vet tomorrow but hopefully its
nothing serious. She is playing and carrying on like normal.
I'm worried.
