       New Year Diet
By: farmgirl Date: January 8, 2024, 8:25 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to embrace a no sugar diet and just needed to not
see the words "Christmas Cookies" above the thread of the day.
Hence a new topic here. Carry on...

I don’t know if this fits with your idea or not but I’d like to
know what people like for snacks. Mr J has almost totally quit
ice cream and cookies so we don’t have them. I never ate as much
as he did but I now don’t have them as an option when I’m hungry
       between meals.
I usually have fruit and I always have nuts. But I can’t eat too
many nuts without getting mouth sores. So I’m looking for easy,
       but healthful snacks.

I generally have veggies prepared for nibblies, as well as
fruit. Jicama dipped in a tiny puddle of salad dressing
(generally balsamic vinegar, tbh) generally hits the spot and
isn't too rough on the diet. I also roast veggies like cabbage,
parsnips, radishes, and beets to eat cold with a drizzle of
       vinegar.

I like greek yogurt in addition to fruit and nuts. Also I like
a protein shake made with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a
frozen banana - which is usually my go-to after the gym. The
trainers say I need to eat more protein.
I also really like grainy GF crackers, with or without cheese.
But I need to watch the carbs a little bit. I used to eat
hummus, but I'm kind of bored with it these days. I like hard
boiled eggs. My husband eats leftover salad for a snack (I make
extra at dinner so he usually has some available to him.) I
will eat any leftover cooked vegetables - particularly broccoli
       or carrots.

Good ideas. I eat lots of veggies with meals so that isn’t my
idea of a snack but it just hit me that celery with some peanut
       butter is good and filling.
We used to make our own smoothies after workouts but got out of
the habit. I can try to do that again.

I like carrots, apples, or grapes with a little bit of cheese.
Since we don’t have a full dinner on weekdays, this is sometimes
my dinner. Mr likes whitefish salad with either crackers or
carrots as a quick snack to ward off hunger.

Kale chips, seaweed snacks, nuts (no cashews or pistachios),
seeds, and cucumbers with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter or
tahini, are a few of my lower sugar snacks. I also rely on
smoothies often, and I use an unsweetened vegan protein powder
in those so I can easily control how much sugar is in them - my
brand is gluten free but it isn't certified per U.S. guidelines
(it is a Canadian product), so I'm not sure if you could use the
same product. Good luck finding what works for you. :)

None of my favorites are really low sugar. On the healthier
side, I like apple slices with peanut butter, peanut butter and
saltines, and individual size containers of unsweetened
applesauce. On the higher sugar side/dessert side (all
approximately 100 calories/18 grams of carbs), I like Fage greek
yogurt with fruit on the side, yasso greek yogurt bars,
individual rice pudding, or almond milk chocolate pudding (also
       individual size).

We also mix up our own dried fruit and nut bags so they're 1/4
cup, half nuts. They work for my husband to keep bedside in case
he gets hungry after I'm asleep.

Right now, my go to snacks are almonds, black grapes, fuji
apples. I get the Blue Diamond blueberry flavored almonds.
