I get a screen of potentially interesting links (Pocket) every
time I open a new tab in Firefox. I'm not completely certain
how these work, I hope they don't require some cookie that might
make them unavailable to others.
It was a fun read -- I'd seen and enjoyed the vast majority of
these. (Although I had never even heard of their #2 choice.)
It was pleasant to be reminded of good times at the movie
theater. There were a few movies I know I've seen but somehow
were not especially memorable for me. And some errors (some
typos and I think a misnamed actor). Nonetheless, you may find
the article enjoyable.

This one is the same article, but begins with the bottom of the
list

I guess sci fi is definitely my bag cause there wasn't one entry
on that list that I've seen that I didn't love. Though I do
think ranking 2001 A Space Odyssey as the best ever is kind of
yawn, boring, predictable and not really that deserved. I mean,
it really wasn't THAT great. Too long and too full of itself.
I get what you mean, but, if I think about the movie in context
of the year it was released, I can't think of a better number
one movie for this list. Astronauts hadn't even not walked on
the Moon yet. Nothing that looked like that had ever been made
before, and every space movie after built from Kubrick's vision.
That being said, the list is a bit heavy with older movies -
makes me wonder if they had a target audience of Baby Boomer to
GenXers in mind.

I take issue with the rank of The Fifth Element. It is too damn
low on the list. :)

William Anders, aboard Apollo 8 in close orbit seeing the far
side of the moon for the first time, later reported that he was
terribly tempted to report a large black monolith...
I can't believe they rated Starship Troopers so high. Or at
all, really. Heinlein put a lot of thought into what kind of
equipment future soldiers would be using (remember he was
educated as a navy officer), and the movie used WW II gear
instead. Only good part was a nude scene by a pretty actress -
but it takes a lot more than boobs to make a good movie.

And Starship Troopers at #11? Really?
I disagreed with a lot of the rankings. Admittedly, I have not
seen all of the movies listed, but I definitely would have
placed some higher than others.
But what do I know.
I'll admit that one of the more memorable aspects of Starship
Troopers was someone slapping Casper Van Dien's fine butt, so I
think it was overrated here. I acknowledge the horror of war
was well depicted. Many critics were enamored of the hints of
criticism of Fascism -- only people who serve in the armed
forces are Citizens, the costuming reminiscent of WWII uniforms
-- but I felt this a tad too subtle.

I was glad that Starman made the list.
It was a sweet film, and Jeff Bridges did a great job.

I saw both Soylent Green and A Clockwork Orange at the drive-in
theater. So I guess they probably were second run. Anyway a long
time ago. I found both of them very confusing. They weren’t good
choices for a drive-in. But that’s what we had in the summertime
in those days.

I'm glad Silent Running and Brazil made the list.

I’m not as much of a sci-fi movie fan as some of you and I tend
to be more of a reader than a movie watcher in general but I’ve
seen a number of them. I was very happy to see The Last
Starfighter and Escape From New York on the list.
I was happy to see The Last Starfighter too, and it was nice to
see Brazil and Time Bandits in there.
Did I miss a movie, or did none of the Hunger Games movies make
it on the list? If I didn't miss one, that seems wrong if
popularity was part of their criteria.

Would Hunger Games be considered Sci Fi? Or is dystopian
fiction its own genre?

Dystopian fiction should be its own genera if it isn't already,
because a lot of movies would fit there. My guess is that how
Hunger Games movies are labeled for genera depends on the
source. I found it labeled as science fiction, dystopian, and
sometimes it is labeled it as a combination. I also think many
films are more than one genera at the same time, but I will
accept that maybe Hunger Games doesn't belong on this list.

Plenty of the 150 had dystopian themes. Maybe the folks who made
the list didn't think Hunger Games films were any good.
