List of top science fiction movies (Rolling Stone)
By: Tryp_OR Date: January 4, 2024, 4:17 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I get a screen of potentially interesting links (Pocket) every
time I open a new tab in Firefox. I'm not completely certain
how these work, I hope they don't require some cookie that might
make them unavailable to others.
It was a fun read -- I'd seen and enjoyed the vast majority of
these. (Although I had never even heard of their #2 choice.)
It was pleasant to be reminded of good times at the movie
theater. There were a few movies I know I've seen but somehow
were not especially memorable for me. And some errors (some
typos and I think a misnamed actor). Nonetheless, you may find
the article enjoyable.

I guess sci fi is definitely my bag cause there wasn't one entry
on that list that I've seen that I didn't love. Though I do
think ranking 2001 A Space Odyssey as the best ever is kind of
yawn, boring, predictable and not really that deserved. I mean,
it really wasn't THAT great. Too long and too full of itself.

I agree about 2001 -- top 20 for sure, but there were multiple
films that were a lot more fun or more adventurous. I'm a
little sad that Rocky Horror Picture Show didn't make the list
somehow, it might not be great but it sure was fun. It
shouldn't be completely about the art.

I get what you mean, but, if I think about the movie in context
of the year it was released, I can't think of a better number
one movie for this list. Astronauts hadn't even walked on the
Moon yet. Nothing that looked like that had ever been made
before, and every space movie after built from Kubrick's vision.
That being said, the list is a bit heavy with older movies -
makes me wonder if they had a target audience of Baby Boomer to
GenXers in mind.

I take issue with the rank of The Fifth Element. It is too damn
low on the list. :)

And Starship Troopers at #11? Really?
I disagreed with a lot of the rankings. Admittedly, I have not
seen all of the movies listed, but I definitely would have
placed some higher than others.
But what do I know.

Right?! One of my personal favs. That, Serenity and Idiocracy
deserve way more respect.

I’m not as much of a sci-fi movie fan as some of you and I tend
to be more of a reader than a movie watcher in general but I’ve
seen a number of them. I was very happy to see The Last
Starfighter and Escape From New York on the list.

I was happy to see The Last Starfighter too, and it was nice to
see Brazil and Time Bandits in there.
Did I miss a movie, or did none of the Hunger Games movies make
it on the list? If I didn't miss one, that seems wrong if
popularity was part of their criteria.

Aliens, a synthetic human, a ray gun. a (never seen) rocket that
returns them to where they originated -- it is totally science
fiction!! :D
