Coopawns/Cuepawns

It doesn’t matter how you pronounce,
the tedium to me isn’t worth an ounce.
I could clip and drive to stores all day,
prefer to buy and be on my merry way…
but BOGO for ice cream I will pounce.

Sorry, no. 😁
That's how I pronounced it growing up...but as an adult, I saw
the word has no Y, and moved to the Light Side.
It's COOpon.

According the the Never Infallible cybersphere:
"Coupon is of French origin. It has developed an American
pronunciation variant [kyoo-pon] with an unhistorical y -sound
not justified by the spelling. This pronunciation is used by
educated speakers and is well-established as perfectly
standard."
So THERE
;D :D ;) :-* 8)

If it's coupe (coop), then it's gotta be coupon (coopon).
Or maybe we should make it sound like the ou in sound, or rough.

I'm wondering if there are regional differences.
I grew up in NYC and my mother said cue-pon. She learned
English in the NYC (Bushwick) schools as her parents were
immigrants circa 1920.
