they want to believe.

Excellent article, thank you for the gift link. The part about
GMOs me remember reading about Golden Rice:
"Malnutrition represents a silent epidemic in the developing
world, with millions of children dying each year.
Biofortification may not be a perfect solution to the problem of
poverty in these countries, but it has the potential to greatly
reduce the burden of disease. Much work remains to be done, but
biofortified crops like Golden Rice may indeed be worth their
weight in gold when it comes to preventing disease."

Interesting. But I don't agree with the tilapia comment - I've
tried to eat it several times and could not. It tastes like mud
to me and not in a good way.

I've rarely read an article that I disagree with so strongly!
(Just a personal take).
1. Tilapia is gross. I can tell the difference between tilapia
and other fish in a heartbeat. Often tilapia contains high
levels of toxic bacteria, contaminants, and antibiotics.
depends upon farming practices, all of which are not good.
2. Organic foods have benefits, too numerous to go into here
(but include reduced exposure to pesticides, less toxic
chemicals/cadmium, higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, etc)
3. And yeah, I can taste the difference between eggs,
absolutely
I guess we can all choose to eat the way we feel comfortable!

I don't have backyard chickens, so haven't eaten eggs raised
that way since childhood (when my mom bought her eggs from an
elderly woman who raised chickens and had a little business on
the edge of the very small town in our area.)
But when I moved from Philadelphia to Minnesota, I was struck by
the difference in taste in the eggs. In both places they were
supermarket eggs, I assume the difference is in what the
chickens were fed.

I like tilapia just fine. It’s not my favorite but I don’t find
it muddy tasting at all.
I agree that eggs can taste different. When we were in India the
eggs were the best I’ve ever had. I always figured it is because
they are eating bugs they find.

I am convinced that some of this is due to the fact that
different people can detect and are displeased by different
flavors. I have not experienced muddy tasting tilapia, so I
like it OK (although it is bland). I have occasionally tasted
some muddiness in catfish, so I don't think I'm completely
oblivious to that flavor. But it doesn't really offend me.
It has been a very long time since I've had backyard eggs, but
it seems pretty likely that the eggs' flavor would vary with hen
diet. Although the bright orange color alone is not indicative
of a taste difference. I'm not convinced that industrial
organic eggs would be much different in flavor than
conventional.
