Is there a way to filter out GIFs?

Any setting that will eradicate gifs while leaving the text in a
message or quote string visible?

One of the boards I look at occasionally displays all gifs as
non-running thumbnails at first. If you want to see it, you
click on it. If you're not into gifs, or whatever, you scroll on
by. That way, the forum takes up less internet bandwidth.
I wish this software offered this as an option. (I realize many
here may disagree, tho'. Am so glad we get a say about
formatting, etc., here! It feels so much friendlier and
democratic than WaPo Haxland.)
