This seems like a good place to
       AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA for a bit:
Mom has fallen three times in the last two days. No obvious
physical ailments (sinus infection/UTI/etc). Dr. is trying very
hard to avoid hospitalizing her because of the COVID surge in
       Texas.

I am so sorry. That sounds stressful. I hope she doesn't need
       to be hospitalized.

So sorry to hear this Cavia. Mr's mom was a fall risk from the
day she moved in with us. She fell in the airport leaving
Florida to live with us. She fell so many times before we could
get her to use a walker. She had canes that she would never use.
It made her look old. It wasn't that she couldn't walk. she
scuffed her feet, she would not pick her feet up enough to
clear, say a throw rug. Sometimes she blamed her knee giving
       out.
Would your mom accept using a cane or a walker?

       [member=163]CaviaPorcellus[/member]:  is she getting injured
when she falls? What precipitated the falls? I'm sorry to hear
       this.

She fell again this morning and laid on the ground for FIVE
HOURS before calling for help. Sis is taking her to the ER.
       We don't know what's precipitating them - they're happening
early when everyone is asleep, and when asked she'll just say
her feet got away from her.
She does have injuries, but they're minor. I've seen the
pictures, they're not pretty, but they're not major bleeding or
       broken bones, either.
Sis was already looking into nursing facilities before this, but
this is accelerating the timeline. She's got more needs than any
of us can meet at this point.
Edit because I just saw Teky's reply - she's been using a walker
for a few years now. Next step is a chair, if she's amenable,
       which she won't be.

This is an extremely difficult time for all of you, and I
include your admittedly-extremely-difficult mother in that. Can
I offer you a virtual package of THC+CBD gummies and a virtual
       pitcher of my world-famous mojitos?

My mother had a DNR. She was in Assisted Living by then. Her
internist is the one who broached it with her. She wasn't keen
on it as she never wanted to die .I was in agreement, she was at
least 97 at the time and I was always present at her doctors'
       appointments.
What was a little strange to me, the last time she was in the
hospital, the hospitalist asked me should they do CPR on her, as
I was leaving for the evening. I said she has a DNR on record
and he said he knew. I said no to the CPR, as she was so frail,
they would have broken her ribs with that effort and it wouldn't
have saved her but elongate the death. I knew they were taking
her to ICU as they were going to administer some medication that
might make her bottom out and they wanted ICU staff to bring up
back up. I left at 9:15pm. They called at 10:40pm from ICU. They
didn't even have time to transfer her within ICU before she
passed. Earlier that day, for the first time, she said "if I'm
going to feel this way, I would rather die". She had never said
anything remotely like that, ever. This may sound strange but I
was eternally grateful she didn't die in front of me.
