antibiotics for the ear infection. I'd try slipping her some
high-calorie, high-value treats at some point when Nori is
otherwise occupied. It will help get her weight back up and
remind her that you still value her, too.

If you want to give her some kitty crack cocaine, 😁,
check out Delectables Squeeze Ups. The shelter uses them to get
scared cats used to people. They can’t resist them. Got some for
LB and he was eating out of my hand and then rewarding me with
rubs and purrs. This was when he was still generally hiding
under the bed. Using these was the turning point for him wanting
physical contact. He actually slept in the bed with Sasha and me
for part of last night.

Oh, yeah. I have some on standing order with Amazon because the
Tacha crew loves their Delectables. For the older cats whose
appetites are waning, a tube slipped to them when everyone else
is out of the room is both a nice treat and a way to get a few
more calories down them. They are the awesomest treats in the
world for the youngsters. They absolutely make giving meds
easier, because after the first time with new med followed by
squeeze up most of the Tacha cats are willing to take the med
for the treat. It's how I taught Junko to accept her insulin
shots (with vet approval, nach) when she needed them.

Sasha is an incredibly picky eater and likes no squeeze tube
(shocking I know) offered from several brands. Also doesn't
like any wet food nor the pouches.
She will eat one brand of hard treats. She will eat exactly
three brands of food. And those second two brands got found
after 2 years of trying.
She is only somewhat food motivated and currently off her
treats. She is eating. I think it's still less than normal but
it's more than a pitiful amount. She has not thrown up in the
last 24 hours.
She is now more relaxed. She has attempted to approach the
kitten who warns her off. And of course if Nori attempts to
approach Sasha then Sasha gets all bent out of shape. At some
point, they will get on the same page.
ETA: I caught Sasha eating the kitten food that came with Nori.
So she is getting some high value food into her. And now I'm
going to have to find out what he sent.

Sasha has been hanging out in her spa bed. I think she is more
relaxed. This is her not 10 minutes AFTER Nori slipped and fell
on top of her while trying to check her out.
Some growling and hissing but all body parts accounted for.

I took Nori to the vet today to figure out next steps regarding
the heart murmur. Dr. K listened for like a second before
saying it was bad and definitely a Grade 4. While she took Nori
to take blood to do an overall check, she told me to call the
cardiologist while I was still in the exam room. I did. Their
first statement was that they were booked until Jan but maybe
they could get me into another site 25 miles away in October.
They left to figure that out and came back saying they can
squeeze me in on Tuesday. Done. Dr. K didn't have to pull in a
favour from a friend.
Dr. K is not hopeful about her prognosis but she is just
guessing what might be wrong. She said it's possible that her
life will be severely shortened but the fact that she is with me
increases her odds substantially.
So... Just remaining hopeful until I get the official diagnosis
on Tuesday.

Nori has 2 congenital heart defects. One is the large hole
between the left and right ventricle. The other is a band of
fibrous muscle in the right ventricle that constricts the blood
from going out to the valve and to the lungs. Because of the
constriction, her blood actually goes from her right to left
ventricle in reverse of the normal direction if you have a hole.
Non-oxygenated and oxygen rich blood goes outbound rather than
just oxygen rich blood. This can cause a cascading set of
problems which she currently doesn't exhibit.
This is correctable. Not so much fixed as mitigated. They can
put in a shunt that opens up the constriction. If they get the
shunt size correct then it will balance out the hole in the
heart and her heart will function weirdly but normal enough to
serve her needs. They don't fix the hole at all. This surgery
would potentially allow her to live a near normal lifespan.
The catch? A) she is way too small for the surgery. She needs
to get to at least 5lbs. and B) it is very specialized and can
only be performed by a vet school in NC or CO.
The cardiologist is going to set up a consult with NC State to
see if she is a candidate for the surgery.
