This story brought back lovely memories of our various

Thanks, Muskrat! I am hopeful that Cyrus will make a full
recovery. I am just relieved that his trainer is so on top of
this. I am new to puppies, so it's a fascinating (frustrating?)
new world for me too.

Well, they are pretty big dogs, right? Maybe it just takes
longer to get all that mass to the floor! 😆

Thanks for asking, Queenie. It does seem as if Cy's clothes
were confusing him. I took them off him before we went out later
that night, and he was back to sitting at the door as usual,
though he wasn't as fast about it and didn't look at me
before getting up, and I felt we needed to start back at the
beginning (meaning the door is completely closed, and I open it
just as I "release" him).
After a couple of clothes-free successes, we tried it again with
clothes. Cy was less successful than without clothes, in that I
had to prompt him a couple of times. But overall, he's
progressing on that front too.
His regular sit for all other purposes went back to normal, both
with and without clothes, by the next day.
So, I guess that means we're in the clear on that issue?
I'm mostly relieved, but still a bit troubled about it all.
Fortunately, we have a followup vax appointment with the vet
this Friday, so he'll have a chance to check Cy out.
It's his first visit since the ER trip two Sundays ago.

It all sounds fine to me. Perfectly age-appropriate. The clothes
were a distraction. Working through distractions is about 90% of
training.

How is Cy doing?
LCP's bird dog training is haphazard at best, but she is having
an absolute blast working scent problems in the woods. She
flushed four pheasant yesterday during a hike in the woods, and
she was deliriously proud of herself.
At home Mr Q has decided to teach her to "tidy up" by putting
her toys in a basket. Let's say that progress has been somewhat
erratic. She does, however, quite enjoy taking the toys back
out.
To whoever started "better go now" as a cue for elimination:
Excellent, thank you. No way to mistake it for anything else.

Hi!
Honestly, LCP sounds delightful. I'm curious to know what the
teaching method will be to get her to tidy up. Shaping?
Cy is doing a lot better -- thanks for asking. His trainer gave
him a glowing report yesterday on how well he was behaving
offleash with other dogs, and I've seen a noticeable improvement
onleash too. The happy-go-lucky bounce in his step is also
back, so yay!
He still hates wearing clothes, but he's almost completely back
to normal on sitting, with or without. I haven't tried to move
him past "week 1" on door training, but think we're ready now.
I'll probably jump more quickly from here to see if we can get
back to "week 10" in three weeks or so, but will go by what
works for him.
Honestly, I'm still a bit weirded out by the door issue and how
he completely lost all his training. But if the vet is
convinced Cy didn't have brain damage, then I guess I can let it
go -- well, maybe when we're back up to "week 10" work.
