Cat Food replacement

This thread might be useful for
[member=134]VanGoghSunflowers[/member] too...
So I've been using Natural Balance Duck and Pea with some throw
up issues on this last bag. I did some research and changes in
formulation have occurred causing issues. I have also been the
recipient of this years ago with this brand with the cat that
started this whole limited ingredient diet. I went back to this
brand after searching for a substitute and not finding one the
cats would reliably eat.
My alternative has been Blue Buffalo Fish and Potato which has
pea protein as the third ingredient above potatoes. That is
what I get for not reading the ingredients. It basically has
peas in it. She will eat this.
I'm not in dire need of a single protein diet with Sasha but
like the concept of limited-ish ingredients with focus on
protein. It's so much easier to figure out food allergies. If
I wanted to stay away from duck, remain grain free and
potentially remove peas does anyone have alternatives their cats
actually enjoy?
She doesn't like Stella's freeze-dried Duck Duck goose so it
might need to be limited to kibble. Also, I have yet to find a
wet food or treat she will touch.

Thanks Billie. The Facebiter's issue seems to be with poultry so
the vet suggested fish. He's been disinterested in fish before,
so she suggested rabbit as the alternative.
I confess I haven't switched yet. We just did a big stock up and
I have had other stuff going on this weekend. But I'll probably
try fish and see if he'll eat it.

Speaking strictly for myself I am not a Blue fan at all.
I have had very good luck with the highest level of Fromm, as
well as Stella and Chewy, and if you have the budget there are
some very hiqh quality frozen brands, we used this one:

Not sure if they have a formulation which would work for you.

I think my cats only liked junk food! :)
I got some of that Primal in rabbit for free. Universally hated
by all three cats. One of them was Coco who pretty much ate
anything. I was incredibly disappointed.
Coco loved Stella and Chewy freeze-dried duck. Sasha won't
touch it. We threw out what was left over when Coco passed. I
have another unopened bag I need to return.
I haven't tried Fromm but I think that is one of the ones the
breeder fed her. I might go back to him and find out what he
used. He said he generally feed kitten formulas since he had
kittens and nursing mothers and I was to not do that going
forward.

So, the Verminator initially refused to touch the Primal. I was
annoyed because it had been expensive. For reasons I can't
explain I decided to keep trying. Each day I put out a fresh
cube. After a while he decided to try it, and thereafter he
began to insist upon it. Loudly and at length.
I realize that none of this may be the slightest bit relevant to
you.

I reached out to the breeder. He stopped using Fromm. Didn't
say why. He currently uses Royal Canine? He recommended
Orijen.
[member=134]VanGoghSunflowers[/member] Orijen has a fish flavour
that didn't seem to have other random protein thrown in. I know
my store carries Orijen so I might try that if I don't get
another recommendation more compelling.

Well this might all be easier than anticipated.
I bought salmon dry food because I could only find chicken,
duck, and salmon, and I couldn't imagine duck being safe when
chicken and turkey have both been issues. I mean lifelong
vegetarian here, but those are all birds, so...
Anyway I gave him a little sample of the salmon and he wolfed it
right down. So maybe his hatred of fish was brand specific or a
phase he grew out of.

Yippee!
So I returned all of my unopened food successfully and bought a
bag of Origen 6 fishes.
I mixed it with the bit of Blue Buffalo I had left over. It
took until the next day for her to try it. Seemed like she
preferred it and picked it out of the bowl. Several hours later
she threw up. :(
Not entirely sure when she went back for a second helping. But
no second round of vomiting.
As an FYI, duck is not equal to chicken for whatever reason. I
had a cat that couldn't have chicken. Duck was fine. But I
made the same move as you and went from duck to fish. She does
eat chicken treats and they seem fine. I'm not 100% convinced
it is food on Sasha's part but this seems like an easy thing to
change.
I can't do anything if the situation with Coco stressed her out.
I have only slightly more control over Mr. Ryder aggravating
her. And a couple of times it came hand in hand with an asthma
attack so one wonders if they are related. See above... Food
was the easy fix.

I realized it might not be clear that the Yippee related to
VanGogh finding cat food.
So... No more vomiting after that first taste. She was also
getting multiple sores around her neck/head from scratching.
She now has zero. So the itchy/scratchy has passed to.
Let's hope this works because
A) the food reeks
B) the food is extremely expensive. I thought it was slightly
more expensive but once I got it home I realized it was only a
4lb bag. She only eats two handfuls a day so it will last a
while.

Mojo, Billie! We're still doing okay over here. He likes the
fish food, he's scratching less, and this may be my imagination,
but he seems less cranky. So fingers crossed for similar luck
for you!
