I've recently noticed that there is a [19] next to my Profile
tab at the top of the page. I can't say for sure whether this
is a new change or if it has been around a while and I've just
been oblivious.
I do not seem to have 19 messages or notes or whatever listed
under my profile, so I am wondering what this signifies.

Some days I have a [58] next to mine, I think it's for mentions,
if I click on the mentions it sometimes disappears, but not
always.
I think it's new-ish

It's for the number of mentions - places where people have
tagged you as [member=140]Tryp_OR[/member] . If you click on
Profile, the menu will drop open and you'll see Mentions at the
bottom with a (20 now) there next to it. Clicking into Mentions
appears to clear it.
It showed up recently and appears to be an update that they've
pushed but have not posted about since there's nothing in the
Support forum about it (other than somebody asking how to turn
it off, and an answer about how to disable the mentions system
altogether).

I just noticed that. When I hovered my mouse over "Profile" a
little sub-menu opened up with the number next to "Mentions."
So yes, it's the number of mentions. Sometimes things like this
will appear after an update. At least it's not like Firefox that
will remove all your bookmarks when updating.

wildly and I don't have as many mentions as it claims. But on
the other hand, the number is small enough that I can ignore it.

I think it also counts not just the time you're mentioned
(@YourName) but also each time your post is quoted, by you or
nested inside someone else's quote with your quote.

being quoted a fair bit, I'm seeing no numbers at all...

Well, it turns out I was not correct about it also including
quoted posts. It is "just" mentions. But if you click on it and
view the list, they are now marked as read and the numbers won't
display. Until you get another mention.
