Today is Octavia's Gotcha day!
By: Aardtacha Date: October 27, 2022, 7:11 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Although she's lived with us since the end of last month, today
we finally got to actually adopt Octavia (so named because she's
the 8th cat now). They waived the adoption fee (they're
overwhelmed with kittens and pups ATM) so she just cost me the
refundable $25 neutering voucher fee. My vet wasn't listed as
accepting it, but a spay is the cost of owning a cat so I'll
take her to them when it's time. I'd rather go to someone I
know and trust, and twenty-five bucks isn't that big a deal.
Donated an extra $50. I'll also end up donating the voucher
fee, but it's still cheaper than adopting a cat used to be.
She was born on my maternal aunt's birthday, so her b'day will
be easy to remember!

Miss Octavia went to the Real Vet (as opposed to the shelter's
clinic) today for her big girl shots (and to set up a spay
appointment, but I didn't tell her that part). We struggled to
get her to the required 2 pounds to be adoptable, and in these
three weeks she has gained another pound and a half. I have
been assured that she is a) healthy as dammit and b) a cutie
pie.
Since she got her shots in her shoulders today she won't get the
Revolution put on her until this weekend.
She was scared but well behaved with the vet and the vet techs.
Now she is curled up on one of her favorite cat beds looking
pathetic, but she sure gobbled down her post-vet treat tube o'
goo and tried to elbow her way into Isilde's special toothless
old fart gooshy food as well.

And on the subject of looking pathetic, Miss Octavia is now
curled up in a heated cat bed in the dog kennel, still shaky on
her feet from her spay this AM. We had wanted to let her loose
in a single room but she's staggering too much for that, IMO, so
bed, water-bowl and personal litter box are now in the dog
corral here in the playroom (where we spend the majority of our
time).
Tonight we'll move her to the circus tent (AKA original puppy
playpen) on the other side of the divide, where she will have to
stay for the next 5-7 days, away from her brothers who play way
too rough for a little kitten just out of surgery. So far no
cone of shame but I have the inflatable donut collar if she
starts licking when she's a bit more alert.
Receptionist and I both laughed when she was telling me no
running, jumping or climbing for the next week. We've all been
there; we know that is very unlikely to happen unless I keep her
in a hard-sided cage like the humane society has. We're keeping
her on the Scam Likely side of the divide, since at most Scammy
will chase her gently or let her chase Scam. The boys like to
do major rugby tackles and such, and they weigh 2-3 times what
she does.
