TV Shows

With us being home so much more, my family is always looking for
new shows to watch. Any suggestions? We love mysteries
(Sherlock is a house favorite), comedies, crime-type shows
(NCIS, CSI). Bonus if it's on Netflix, or free with Amazon
Prime!

Have you seen Broadchurch? The first season is one of the best
mystery TV shows I've seen in a while, and the two leads (David
Tennant and Olivia Colman) are fantastic. It was streaming for
free when I saw it (on Netflix I think) although that was a
while back.
There's a second season but I haven't seen it yet; the first
season was almost too good that I'm so satisfied with the story
they told that I don't feel the need for more!

Have you seen Lupin on Netflix ? It's in French with Eng
subtitles (dont let that deter you!): the first season is just
so fun & well done. It's got a vibe similar to Sherlock.
It stars Omar Sy (very engaging & perfectly cast): it's a French
mystery thriller inspired by the literary character, Arsène
Lupin, a fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise.
Story is set in Paris, so there's lots of amazing scenery.
Not sure how old your kids are, but it's good for everyone.
Highly recommend, esp if youre a Sherlock fan.

These suggestions are great, thank you! We've not seen either
show, so I will be sure to check them out. My kid is almost 15,
so most shows are fine for all of us to watch together.

I like my crime procedurals with plenty of eye candy. This is
why I enjoyed Hawaii 5-0 and did not enjoy any of the gritty
British shows with actors who looked like regular people.

For comedies, we've been loving Reservation Dogs.

We're all avid fans of "Sherlock", to the point of doing the
Sherlock walking tour in London a couple of years back! So fun
to see all the spots they filmed, the Diogenes Club, as well as
the spot where Sherlock plunged to his death. We saw people
imitating it by the red phone booth. :)
Must second "Broadchurch", all three seasons. David Tennant
and Olivia Colman well worth the price of admission!
Also, can't recommend "Unforgotten" too highly either. Stars
the incomparable Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar. The writing
and acting are top notch.
And, of course, "Endeavor", the backstory of DC Morse, starring
Shaun Evans. Totally excellent detective series.
Also, on the lighter front, "Last Tango in Halifax".

We started watching The Blacklist on Netflix. I'm hooked. This
is coming from someone who has been saying "no more series, find
a movie!" so I'm pleasantly surprised. It's a crime-type show.
James Spader plays a criminal the FBI has been looking for and
he shows up and says he will help them find bad guys, but he'll
only talk to Elizabeth Keen. I'm not a fan of gratuitous
violence or gore, so I'm happy that most of that they leave to
your imagination.
Sometimes I will pull up the channel guide and look for the
channel that's playing NCIS on a loop. Love to watch Mark
Harmon!
