I think it's hysterical. I know I'm in the minority on that
here. If appropriately applied, of course. And honestly, I've
never seen it not appropriately applied. I would object if I do.

       Sexist, racist, classist. Appalling.

I guess I'm late to the discussion, and others have made the
points already about sexism, etc. So I'll focus on how shitty
it is to turn a person's name into a slur. I think it's
incredibly unfair to all the women out there who are named
"Karen." If there's a compelling need for a shorthand, then
       make up a word.

I will admit that part of my ire is that I know a few Karens who
are just lovely lovely people. Also one who would totally kick
your ass and is the polar opposite of a Karen. She's amazing.

If nothing else, I am 100% on board with this. Particularly
after I met our new office admin when we first started coming
       back in... Karen.

This grew out of a message exchange I had with Ani that she
encouraged me to bring here. I find the term Karen racist and
sexist. It's a derogatory term used to refer to white women,
using implying that they feel or act entitled. I don't think
it's any different than using 'Jose' to refer to any generic
Latino male. When I've heard it, it was often used to imply the
person or persons were undocumented. How do others feel about
       the term.?
       [/quote]
I've never been a fan. Like pretty much any epithet ("boomer",
the N word, "ch*nk" (one I heard far too often as a kid), it's
used to dehumanize someone or a group of someones in order to
make the user feel superior and to make the person to whom it's
applied feel less than. Unfortunately, by co-opting someone's
name (and Chad or Poindexter or whatever the male equivalent is
supposed to be) they immediately turn everyone who was given
that name into a caricature of the 'type' whether they are or
       not.

I thought it was super cringe and eye-rolly for Baby Boomers to
       say "boomer" is a slur.
And then COVID-19 happened and I saw people actually,
unironically calling it "Boomer remover", and, well.

I would just like to thank all those who weighed in for your
responses. I really appreciate the viewpoints. And that we were
       able to calmly discuss this!
