I think it's better to describe a person's behavior (entitled,
racist, etc.) than to use a shorthand like "Karen."

Thank you all, I appreciate the responses. I can see clearly
that it is an issue, and will drop it from my vocab.

I think "Karen" is an unfortunate term for all the reasons
       indicated.
And besides, my ex-sister-in-law Karen was the only one of the
four siblings who was strong enough call out their mother in one
of her unfortunate bigoted statements. So even though we have
very different views on religion, she's still okay with me.

Can you even imagine if someone said "Don't be a Shaniqua"?

I really appreciate this post. I had never really thought about
the implications of using the term Karen. I do now, and promise
       to use my words instead.

I don't use it but it is used freely by the media. I have seen
the term Ken being used for white dudes being glassbowls.
It started with that woman harassing the black guy in the park.
When a black person uses it, I have a tough time calling that
       out but that's just me.
White dudes using it are just finding yet another term to run
       down women.

I do my best to point to specific behaviors instead of labeling
people as others have stated, but I sometimes slip up in a weak
moment. I am working on that. On this particular label, I
really don't think we need to give sexist men any more negative
slurs and stereotypes to use against us, nor is it wise for
women to tear each other down by perpetuating such labels. It
       is counterproductive.

I've heard the word Ken for white men, but have not seen it used
very often at all. Which is one of the problems. People
slamming women using a derogatory word that applies only to
white females while men usually aren't labeled in the same way -
and I doubt if the behavior being referenced is more common in
       women than in men.
Labeling bad behavior with a name that applies only to a single
sex and a single race is offensive on every level.

Men acting demanding and assertive is a good thing. Women
acting demanding and assertive is a bad thing. This is known.
       I mean, it's horseshit, but it's known.

I think it's hysterical. I know I'm in the minority on that
here. If appropriately applied, of course. And honestly, I've
never seen it not appropriately applied. I would object if I do.
