My Employer Just Announced Manditory Vaccination

This will be interesting to watch play out. Starting in Oct you
have to be vaccinated to go to work. At first you can also show
a negative test once a week but that will go away at some point.

I am glad they did it. Cajoling hasn't worked with the hold
outs. Time to ramp up the pressure.

Ours announced it weeks ago and recently updated to wit: anyone
who wants to set foot on campus must show proof of vaccination.
       I don't love that this isn't a choice any more than I don't love
that people won't make a safe choice. I'm not a fan of the
nanny state in general. That said (a) no skin off my nose, I'm
vaccinated, and (b) I do not have the energy nor desire to
object, I'm so sick of, well, everything.

I cajoled my last holdout like six weeks ago.
Couldn't really have clients in the office without it, and we
       need clients in the office.
This is probably going to get hairy in lots of places.

Spouse has been required to be vaccinated for months in order to
attend meetings at a federal customer's facility. The customer
requires contractors to be vaccinated, even though it's own
federal workforce doesn't have a vaccine mandate yet. And
spouse's employer doesn't require vaccines yet either. How's
       that for entertaining?
It was no problem for spouse's team — they're competitive and
raced to see who'd get vaccinated first :D

Yea, BP and I were in such a hurry to get them we traveled to NC
because they opened them up before Va.
From what I have read, there is no legal recourse for employees.
Companies are allowed to mandate them.

I can't think why anyone would have a problem with it. I had to
get lots of shots while I was in school. Leaped at the first
opportunity to get a covid shot. Why is it a big deal all of a
       sudden?
I keep being reminded of Typhoid Mary.

My company hasn't required them yet (like it's been said above,
I am vaxxed, so really no skin off my nose), but we did just
also extend WFH until Jan 2022 (we're in MA).

The not wanting to get vaccinated isn't an all of a sudden
thing, as I'm sure you are aware. Vaccine resistance has been
around for a long time. The mandates aren't all of a sudden
either. As you point out lots of vaccines are mandatory for
       lots of places.
Here's where I start making things up:
At our institution (a medical school) the people who run the
show are epidemiologists, virologists, infection control
specialists, etc. They are completely, indivisibly united in
their positively strident chorus about mandatory vaccination for
covid, on the basis that, basically, the unvaccinated are a
reservoir/breeding ground for more variants, one of which could,
or is likely to, be render the currently available vaccines
       useless.
My made up guess is that there is compelling data that is either
too complicated for regular news organizations to distill down
to a layman's level, or too preliminary to release as settled
(my guess). But it's convinced them that aggressive action is
the only way to stave off the next deadly surge.
DISCLAIMER: Not only did I make that up, given how these people
view epidemiology, herd immunity, etc in the first place I'm not
100% sure I'd agree even if it were true. Although who knows,
       maybe I would
Anyway they were practically thumping the table at the last
       institutional town hall meeting.

       I suspect you're right.
Cant count how many vaccinations I had to get when I was in
school. I'm sure there always has been vaccine resistance, but
during the time I was subject to mandates, I don't remember any
objections, or at least no organized ones. One thing I've been
interested to learn is that Christian Scientists will get
       vaccinations if they're legally required.
