Farewell, Sparky 2010-2022
By: Itopian Date: September 17, 2022, 12:33 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
This morning we said goodbye to Sparky, the oldest of our cats,
brother to Buzzy, defender of his food dish, master of the One
Fast Cat wheel. When it became clear that he was in pain and
struggling to breathe, we headed for the vet's.
He was always one to have his own way, and departed on his own
terms just before we arrived.
He'll be cremated this week, and we'll bring his ashes home.
We love you, boy, forever and always.
A picture by his wheel...

So sorry. Sad for his passing, but I know he brought you joy for
those 12 years. As we say, may memories of him bring you
comfort.

We went to a kittypalooza (all fees waived) at the humane
society on August 1, 2010. I found a teeny-tiny grey tabby
kitten named Buzzy. My wife wandered around while I worked
through his adoption process, and then I found her at a cage
with a slightly larger grey tabby kitten who was all played out.
I sent her to adopt that guy while I guarded him, reaching
through the bars to cup his sleepy head in my hand. They said he
had had a cold, and was mostly treated. It would later turn out
that what he had was seasonal allergies, which would trouble him
a bit all his life. They had named him "Sprinkles," I think from
his sneeziness. We changed that to Sparky, as a
match/counterpoint to Buzzy. He was a month older than Buzzy,
and always assumed Big Brother privileges, even as Buzzy has
blossomed to 20+ pounds, while Sparky always stayed pretty slim.
We're looking to see how the new social configurations shake out
between Buzzy, Kali (a rehomed calico we took in in 2018), and
Koyo, the dreamsicle male who adopted us in November of 2019.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. It helps, truly.

I've never had a cat (so that's why I love everybody else's so
much), so I'm not sure what the One Fast Cat wheel is. (I
looked at Sparky's cute pic twice and still cant figure it out.)
When you feel up to it, may I have a short cat wheel story
sometime ? <3
