       post spay recommendations

LCP is being spayed next week.
It's been a long long time since I was a vet tech and a long
time since I've had a dog spayed. Mostly I'm concerned about
pain management, as one of my slobberdogs developed a lifelong
fear of the vet post spay. LCP is currently fearless in general
and I'd like to keep it that way.
I'm confident that I can keep her quiet as necessary, but if
anyone has any tips on things that worked really well for them
generally, I'd be interested to hear them.

Mom's doing this right now with an unsocialized, anxious,
       untrained rescue dog — wheee!
She's been keeping her in an oversized kennel overnight and when
she's at work. The cats and other dogs all pile around and on
top of the kennel ::) When mom's home, the dog is out of the
kennel with the cone of shame off. Doggo hasn't been bothering
the stitches, and she stays glued to mom's side.
As for pain meds, she gave a course of pain meds as recommended
by the vet. But the doggo was still a bit stiff and reluctant to
move, so she gave 2 more days of extra pills she had on hand
(with the vet's okay) to taper further. Worked perfectly.
The wound is healing nicely, and she goes in to get the stitches
       removed this week I think.

Ziva did okay with a cone and a short leash until the
post-surgical checkup. I don't remember what her pain management
was, but she took it as long as she had to.
We switched vets before her next checkup, so she never had to
deal with not liking the smell of the place.

       Awwww. So cute.
Is that at all heavy for her? Cy hated the cone, but can't do
anything heavy, so I'm looking for options. I have about a
       month to decide.

I'm on my phone so can't mark comments right now but this pic
melts my cold heart and now I want to snuggle her. Fab pic of
       our lil choc puddin. <3

It's inflatable so it weighs nothing. We were warned that these
don't work for every dog but we're pleased so far.
