Hi, Gila. I've been searching for you ever since you posted a
year ago. Glad you're OK. A fellow Israeli - Mitzpe Ramon. Hope
I'm doing this right. If others see this, you can disregard. And
explain to me if I should be replying privately, and if so, how.
[/quote]
There are so many places to post here. The really nice thing is
all the features, like private messaging and the chat. Welcome

Hi, everyone. Just joined as I contemplate cancelling my WaPo
subscription, pre-apocalypse. I'm just getting my bearings.
Hi, Gila. I've been looking for you for the past year! I live in
Mitzpe Ramon. Nice to have a fellow Israeli here.
[/quote]
Welcome!
Take your time getting your bearings. There are a lot of
tutorial posts, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

I love having you back. I see your posts on WAPO occasionally.
The best place to connect with people is probably the Thread of
the Day. Give that a try if you haven’t already.

Thank you, hugeHug. I still don't understand how to reply to a
specific poster, say, you. Where do I write
"[member=7]HugeHug[/member]"?

The upper right of the post you’ll see a “quote”. Click that and
you are responding to that post.
It takes some getting used to since you don’t develop threads
the way you do on WAPO. But once you are familiar with it it
works fine.
We also have lots of dedicated threads in addition to the main
Thread of the Day. It took me quite a while before I paid
attention to the dedicated threads. But doing so really has made
this site more meaningful.

Hi Tov,
As promised, I'll try to help.
1) If you look at the top of the page, you will see "My
Messages". You should see that you have at least one message (my
reply to you). I'm not sure exactly how you sent it to me rather
than who you meant to, but I'd guess that somehow you clicked on
my name.
2) To reply to a post, click "Quote" at the upper right of that
particular post. You will get a box in which to post your
comment. Caution, the original post (posts if it's a nested
conversation) will be at the top of the box. So, scroll down to
start your reply at the bottom. Otherwise, it will get buried in
the middle of the other post.
3)To tag a particular person in a post, use @screen name of that
person in the body of your post.
4)To be notified of any personal message you may receive, you
can modify notification options at "Profile" (above at top of
this page), "Modify Profile", "Personal Messaging."
Hope this helps a little.

Hello [member=36]TovLiBaDarom[/member] - I used the Quote
function in the upper right of your post to reply to your post.
As you can see, it quoted your post.
One thing (of several things) about this forum which I found
very confusing at first is the Reply function. It does not reply
to a particular person or post. It inserts a brand new post in
the thread you are in. I hope NoLongerAubergine’s hints have
helped answer your question. If not, “quote” my post back at me
with what is still confusing to you. Maneuvering in this forum
takes some getting used to but it’s well worth being in it!

Hi! I started with the dailies and just now found this thread.
:-\
I've always been more of a lurker than poster, but I did put out
a few over the last 20-ish years on WaPo. I doubt many people
will remember me, though as an avid reader of the comments I
happily remember many names here.
The comments change was just the last straw for me.
Years ago, Tar Valon (group for avid Wheel of Time fans) used
this forum software, but I've forgotten much of how it works.
Hopefully it'll get familiar again quickly.
Anyway, since we can share stuff here... :D A brief
introduction:
I'm a GenXer originally from the frozen wilds of Iowa (lol), but
I've moved around a lot since leaving HS. I've spent some time
living in Guatemala City, Lubbock, Kansas City, Chicago, DC,
Atlanta, and now Savannah.
I'm also an economist with the federal gov't, in a series of
jobs I've pretty much loved over the last 24 years, may it
continue (preferably another 8 years for regular retirement
eligibility, or at least another year with a VERA!). I get a lot
of personal satisfaction with Excel, VBA, SAS, and Python. :D
;D
Oh, and if you didn't notice from the previous mention, I like
fantasy and urban fantasy reading (ereader these days so I can
scale up font size). I've also been known to participate in
musical theatre/opera and community choirs; knit; play piano,
flute, clarinet, and oboe; and snuggle with my cat.

Welcome welcome welcome!
I knew where your username came from immediately. ;)
For help with the software, I created a series of tutorials that
you may want to check out if you haven't been there already:
