Let's see if the quote part works. I don't really "grill" much
but I use my gas grill as an outdoor oven. Once I get the
temperature where I want it I will bake a lasagna or grill
vegetables or potatoes on a baking sheet or roast a chicken.
Cooking exactly like I do in my oven. Except outside. While I
enjoy a drink in my living room.

It's the carrying everything outside and then carrying it back
inside that I rebel against. Also, no gas grill.

Ani, I don't know what it is that stops you from having soy
sauce. If it's a general soy intolerance, have you tried Fish
Sauce or Coconut Aminos? "Similar but different".

Coconut Aminos, have played with them a little bit and I find it
a pretty decent substitute. Unfortunately... my husband hates
them. Fish sauce is a yecch for me.
It's okay. I will live only being able to have Chinese food once
a year (my favorite takeout food! :'( )

Spouse gave "me" an Ooni pizza oven for Christmas, and I've
finally figured out why we don't grill more often — it's a
gigantic pain in the ass! We live in a 3-floor townhouse, with
the kitchen on the second floor at the front of the house. The
grill is in the back yard, downstairs, through a room with white
carpet (no shoes), and out into the back yard (shoes).
Pizza is simple — we carry the ingredients down once, assemble a
small pie, cook in seconds, eat, then make another and repeat.
When we grill, we're ferrying things back and forth because we
still plan to eat indoors.
^I hope to change all that in the next house. My preferred setup
includes a vegetable garden AND patio directly off the kitchen
... <3

Bummer. That sounds onerous. Can you at least just keep some
flip flops next to the door?
White carpet would lsst about five minutes in this house.

Oh we do :) It was just an enlightening realization for both of
us.

So we broke in the new grill/smoker last night! Turkey breast
with a pretty standard overnight brine, and HeyGrillHey's rub
recipe. 3 hours at ~290 with apple wood chips lead to a pretty
tasty turkey - even better leftover sandwich today! When I lived
in Texas I fell in love with Rudy's smoked turkey, and what I
made wasn't quite as good, but hopefully I'll get there. We're
going to try the more standard grilling function with burgers
and corn tonight.

Sounds like a nice grill/smoker. I am happy for you the test
run worked well. I am a Texas expatriate. If I ate it now I
would regret it, but I could destroy some Rudy's back in my meat
eating days. The breakfast burritos with barbecue! I still
think about them sometimes. I understand why that is what you
were going for with the turkey.

I don't know what it is they do, but it's soooo good! We got one
of the giant ceramic grills, which is supposed to be able to do
everything from low-and-slow smoking to super high temp pizza. I
confess I'm most excited about the pizza - I'm never happy
enough with what I can do in the oven. That test will come
Wednesday :)
