       What's for Mother's Day?
By: Queenie Date: May 6, 2022, 10:20 am

We never go out for Mother's Day. It's even worse than
Valentine's Day from a diner's perspective. So my mom will come
over and we will eat something that hopefully I will not have to
cook. I'd be good with salmon or steaks on the grill and a nice
burrata salad. Mimosas at dawn, probably.
       Anybody hosting brunch?

Back in the day, we used to get Chinese on Mother's Day and mini
sub sandwiches for Father's Day. (Mom really liked carry-out
Chinese. Dad couldn't stand those little bun-sized sandwiches,
but he never argued with her.) Now I just make sure that none of
the moms in my department have to work that day.

My son and his girlfriend are coming over to make me breakfast
:-) I'm just so tickled by that. His girlfriend is such a
sweetheart. SHE was the one who brought it up and asked if I
preferred them make me breakfast or go out. I initially said go
out, but as I thought about it, there's the lines, I'm sure all
the breakfast places will be crowded. And of course I have to
       get dressed to go out.
So, simple breakfast, and we have mango Margaritas, from Jose
Cuervo. They go down like kool aid.

I have no plans except for recovering from the drive back from
MA tomorrow night. Maybe somebody will make french toast for me
       if I ask really nicely.

Typically I've spent Mother's Day at the garden center wandering
around looking at everything and buying my first batch of little
plants for the garden. The timing has usually worked out
because our last day of frost is considered to be May 15th.
It's been cold here until recently, so I think it's too early to
plant - I stunted my plants one year when the soil was too cold.
They didn't die, they just never grew even an inch. Who knew?
I'm flying out to the LA area on Mother's Day this year - I'll
see my 9-month old granddaughter, wish my wonderful DIL a happy
first Mother's Day and then will dog-sit while they take a
vacation. I'm really looking forward to it! I'll treat myself
to some good food (that I don't have to cook) while I'm there.
And I'll plant some of my vegetable seeds before I go - they'll
probably come up while I'm away!

Mom doesn't know it yet, but I preordered a nice steak dinner
for delivery to her tomorrow - I wasn't going to chance the
Sunday rush, and she'll be surprised either way.
I'm making strawberry shortcake for myself and I will eat an
       extra 2 in her honor.

       Bringing Mum almond croissant!
As for real food....my daughter wants to make crepes
(palacsinta) before leaving. Mum will worry about mess and
       fuss. We'll see.

I’m making that strata with bacon and fruit salad. I will also
make a plate of just scrambled eggs for the kids.
One of my BIL’s is bringing mimosa and coffee and the other is
bringing macarons. I get dips on all the lemon.

MIL’s favorites: coconut shrimp, mashed potatoes, lemon tart.
Easy to cook and easy for her to eat.
