He could probably fight you off if you tried to smother him with
       a pillow, right?

I figure any pillow smothering will go the other way around in
       about twenty years.

SONS: May we borrow your car for the six hour drive to the big
hike? Our cars probably won't make it that far.
ME: Yes, but you have to promise not to drive a hundred miles
       an hour.
       SONS: We promise.
You know how this ends, right? Right?
According to the stalker app they are driving 99mph.

OMG Oldest cleaned my chimney without being reminded!
       I am so happy.
This is the sort of thing I can usually get my youngsters to do:
stuff that I now view as too dangerous to do myself. Gosh, I'm
       grateful.
       Young people FTW!

My kid is currently almost 15. I alternate between fierce love
and rage. How can someone so adeptly push every one of my
buttons? I can't wait until we are out of the "I know
everything, no one has ever suffered as I have" phase.

I discovered that I suck at parenting teens. If I had it to do
over again I'd, I don't know, at least say yes more.
       [/quote]
That was my mom's philosophy. Save the "no's" for the really
big stuff. Most other things were yeses.
Still, I was stunned when I somewhat jokingly asked if I could
go on a trip to London with a friend, and she said yes, and
helped me coordinate the trip with a friend of hers who was a
travel agent. I thought for sure that would fall into the "big
       stuff" category.

When they were young enough that it should have been an obvious
no, I gave it to them to figure out how to do it. If they could
figure out how to do it, all the steps involved, looking up
schedules and fares and stuff, then we'd discuss it more and it
would be more likely to be a yes because they'd proven
themselves ready to tackle such things and capable of navigating
them. If they couldn't then it was a no but we'll work more on
you being able to do this so that you can do it in the future.
Thus I managed not to be the meanie who didn't let my 12-yo son
travel to Maine on his own to go live for awhile with someone he
       was friends with online.

ME: Can Dad and I come to your show?
OLDEST (WHO IS NOT A TEEN ANYMORE): When you guys come everyone
thinks you are undercover cops. This changes the vibe and not
       in a good way.
I can't decide if I'm flattered. About looking like an
       undercover cop to the youngsters.
We offered to dress head to toe in his merch but were still
       rejected.
