Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Dad and Ben)

Involvement. Like Ben was some mob boss orchestrating a hit.
Sure, he’d shoved the Jaguars’ captain—hard. And maybe he’d
yelled some trash talk loud enough for both teams to hear. But
involvement? That made it sound like he’d robbed a bank.
He sighed, pulling his hood up as he turned onto his street. The
houses were quiet, most of them lit with the warm glow of dinner
being made or TVs flickering through curtains.
His house was the third on the right, a cozy place that had
recently been decorated for Christmas. Ben pushed open the gate
and trudged up the steps. He paused at the door, gripping the
cold doorknob, and took a deep breath.
“Alright,” he muttered to himself. “Here goes nothing.”
The door swung open, and the familiar smell of dessert could be
smelled. His dad, Levi, was sitting in his usual spot in the
living room.
"Uh, Dad?" Levi questioned, unsure if he'd be interrupting the
man or not.
Ben dropped his bag by the door and stood there awkwardly,
shifting from foot to foot. This was it. No backing out now. He
cleared his throat.
“So, uh, Coach Mike told me I have to tell you about what
happened today.” Taking a deep breath the 16-year-old moved
forward, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. He was barely
holding back a smirk. He scratched the back of his neck as he
considered how he could paint this in the best light possible.
“You remember I told you last week the Jaguars were playing
dirty? And the ref wasn’t calling anything? I mean, I’m pretty
sure he thought his whistle was just a fashion accessory. Heh
heh. Heh.”
“So, after the game last week me and some of the guys made a
plan." He again scratched the back of the neck. "And I...well
um...might've kidnapped the other team's mascot and helped
to...store him...in the janitor's closet while another guy took
over the mascot suit."

Levi had been at the game, he always tried to get there just
like he was always tried to be for the girls too. He had seen
the battering the team had taken and he had no doubt Tim would
be busy tonight handling a few of the more harder knocks. Levi
also saw how the Eastland boys were playing and he questioned
exactly what the heck got into them. His own son included, he
saw a lot of the shoving that was going on and he was pretty
sure that was not how the coach taught them to act. He did let
it go though figuring Mike would handle it as he saw fit.
When his son came through the door Levi was in the living room,
reading. "yeah Bud" His son immediately launched into his coach
telling them he had to tell his Dad. Levi looked at him, "You
mean all that shoving or something else?" He asked and he would
soon get an answer.
He could see the twinkle in his sons eyes, the mischief in his
features and he braced himself for what the boy had to say. It
did not disappoint and Levi had to try real hard to hide his own
smile now because it sounded more ridiculous than harmful
although it still wasn't a good thing. "Why on earth would you
do that?" He asked now trying to take this seriously like he
should. They did after all do something to another person. "They
guys...let me guess Liam...and Shawn." that much he could guess.
"Wait and who was in the mascot suit then?" he'd seen both
mascots so now he was curious

At his dad's question Ben scratched the back of his head.
"Uh...they did bruise my ribs last week..." he offered when Levi
pointed out the shoving.
"But..uh...there's more." Ben stammered, struggling because he
was finding it funny but knew his dad's feelings about how
others should be treated. In light of this Ben was rethinking
things. It's funny, but that was Ben's first thought. In the
past his first thought would have been for his own physical
safety.
His dad's first words did make him grin, though.
"Yup!" Ben chirped in reply to his dad's guesses in terms of
accomplices. He wasn't about to add to the list voluntarily,
though.
At the same time, when Levi asked who was in the suit Ben
paused. So far, Arthur's name hadn't been brought into this at
all. At least not that he'd heard.
"I can't say..." Ben replied with a grin.

He did know about the bruised ribs, he questioned why something
wasn't done.
On a lighter note, Ben was certainly more comfortable around him
and it struck him as a good thing. "more? what did you guys do?"
Levi asked his tone light and easy.
He knew his son wouldn't give up the name of the person in the
suit, did it really matter? not to him, except for the fact that
his daughter was taken by the mascot, "where's Manda now?" he
asked about Ben's sister because well he would like to know

Ben smirked when his dad asked where Manda was now, and could
imagine that Arthur was getting an earful. Which...someone had
to do the deed.
"I can't answer that without ratting out other people."
Hopefully his dad would see his side of things and drop the
subject. He was sure Manda was safe. He wouldn't have agreed and
trusted just anyone to do this. She is his sister, after all.

The smirk on his sons face was not reassuring and he did
question who the poor person was in the mascot suit.
"alright I trust she's safe." Levi said with a light nod, he did
trust his son and Manda was his sister so he had no doubt she
would be safe. "So what exactly happened out there today?" he
had been told by his son in bits but he needed more information
before he went on.

Ben was somewhat surprised when Levi dropped the subject of
Manda. He expected to be pressed a little more, considering
she's MIA. "She's safe," Ben confirmed with a shit-stirring
grin, "but probably madder than a wet hen. Poor Arthur."
He seemed to catch himself and stammered, "I mean! Uh..."
Ben's answer to the question about what happened on the field
was simple. "Payback."

He dropped the subject because right now he was talking to Ben
about his involvement. He also knew Manda would be safe...Arthur
maybe not.
"Well I figured that." He said with a light nod. "But son we
cant be kidnapping people for payback."
