       Why you should read DIVERGENT!
By: NimbusSpirit Date: August 29, 2013, 1:49 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I discovered Divergent back in May this year, and let's just say
I fell completely and utterly in love with it. So, I thought I'd
       tell you guys about it!
This is the synopsis from Veronica Roth, the author's, blog:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into
five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular
virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless
(the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the
intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all
sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will
devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is
between staying with her family and being who she really is—she
can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone,
       including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice
renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends
really are. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden
from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And
as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel
her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret
might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.
Tris is the main character of the book, and the first two books
in the trilogy follow her point of view completely. She is
forced to choose between leaving her family behind in Abnegation
(the selfless faction), and venturing out on her own into
       Dauntless (the brave faction).
The first book is called Divergent, the second Insurgent, and
the third (Allegiant) is set to be released this October (2013).
As well as this, a movie has been signed up at Lionsgate (the
production company behind the Hunger Games), which is set to be
       released March 21st 2014.
If you have any questions regarding the series, feel free to ask
       and I'll respond ASAP.
       Thanks!

I heard everyone's going on and off about how the divergent
series are killing the hunger games. Is that really true? Are
they better than the hunger games?

Personally, I think the Hunger Games is superior. It's true that
the books do have a couple similarities, in that the series are
both dystopian settings, and the leads are both females aged 16.
Bu other than that and the obvious division of society, I think
       the two are quite different.
The Hunger Games is in my opinion more about learning to survive
and having to kill others and do the unthinkable to get it, but
I think Divergent is more about keeping true to oneself and
being firm in your beliefs/actions. Beatrice/Tris has to hide
herself and her true identity, but Katniss in the Hunger Games
has to be herself in order to ultimately win the Games and spark
       the rebellion.
I don't think Divergent is killing the Hunger Games; they do
have similarities but it's their differences that stand out as
well. Overall, however, I do prefer the Hunger Games, but both
       are strong.
       Hope that helps!

This is about the closest I can find to a website for the book
series, it's from the publisher Katherine Tegen books (in the
       US):
  HTML http://www.harpercollins.com/books/Divergent-Veronica-Roth?isbn=9780062024039&HCHP=TB_Divergent
Veronica Roth's personal blog is here:

I can't find an official website, not sure if there is one
because it's still fairly unknown. Hope this helps!
