Why would the author leave the Sorcerer's Stone in his pocket?
Why can't it be in, oh, I don't know, THE MIRROR, WHERE IT
ORIGINALLY CAME FROM??????????

It was in the mirror... Dumbledore put an enchantment on it so
that the first person to want to get the stone, but not use it
for their own gain (i.e. Harry), would get it.
I don't really get your question... :/

Dumbledore put like a spell so that whoever looks at the mirror
and desires to find the stone not for their own devilish desires
or for anyone's desires,but they just want to find it,will
automatically receive the stone. Quierrel couldn't get
it,because we wanted to use it for evil and stuff.Harry wanted
to protect the stone so he was granted access to it.And it was
than transferred to his pocket.

They are awesome even if they're not quite as good as Harry
Potter, The Hunger Games or Percy Jackson.
