New features of windows 8
By: Lion_Heart Date: October 31, 2012, 2:00 am
---------------------------------------------------------
These are three main features of windows 8
Desktop and shell
Windows 8 employs a new user interface based on Microsoft's
Metro design language. The environment features a new tile-based
Start screen similar to that of Windows Phone, which has
replaced the previous Start menu entirely. The Start screen
displays a customizable array of tiles linking to various apps
and desktop programs, some of which can display constantly
updated information and content through "live tiles". As a form
of multi-tasking, apps can be snapped to the side of a screen.
Apps
Windows 8 introduces a new style of application, Windows Store
apps; according to Microsoft developer Jensen Harris, these apps
are to be optimized for touchscreen environments and have
smaller scope in relation to desktop applications. Apps can run
either in a full-screen mode, or be docked directly to the side
of a screen. They can provide notifications and a "live tile" on
the Start screen for dynamic content. Apps can use "contracts";
a collection of hooks to provide common functionality that can
integrate with other apps, such as search and sharing. These
apps are primarily distributed and updated through its namesake
Windows Store, a new distribution platform.
Integration with online services
Windows 8 provides heavier integration with Microsoft's online
services. Users can now log in with a Microsoft account
(formally known as a Windows Live ID), which can allow for
various user settings to be synchronized between multiple
computers. Windows 8 ships with an app for Microsoft's SkyDrive
cloud storage service as well, and allows apps to save files
directly to SkyDrive. A SkyDrive client for the desktop and File
Explorer is not included in Windows 8, and must be downloaded
separately.Windows 8 includes integration with Xbox Live,
including Xbox-branded apps for games, music and video, and the
SmartGlass app which can serve as a companion for content on a
Xbox 360 video game console. Apps can integrate with online
services; the People app can connect to a variety of different
social networks and services, while the Photos app can aggregate
photos from services such as Facebook and Flickr.
Top 5 Features of Window 8:
1. Metro UI: Window 8 has changed the way you interact now all
programs comes in your computer in tiles. Now you can put the
most liked applications in your screen like MS Visual Studio,VLC
player etc and you can customize according to your need. The
Windows 8 interface acts as the Start menu now. Instead of
appearing as columns of small icons that pop up when you click
the Start button, all your applications show up as tiles on the
Windows 8 Start screen.
2. Windows Explorer, which has been also renamed File Explorer,
now includes a ribbon in place of the command bar. File
operation dialog have been updated to provide more detailed
statistics, the ability to pause file transfers, and
improvements in the ability to manage conflicts when copying
files.
3. Task Manager has also been redesigned, including a new
processes tab with the option to display fewer or more details
of running applications and background processes, a heat map
using different colors indicating the level of resource usage,
network and disk counters, grouping by process type (e.g.
applications, background processes and Windows processes)
4. Improved Search Function: Windows 8 has no search box at the
bottom of the Start menu. That does not mean that there’s no
convenient search function available. All you need to do is to
type anything, and a search box will appear from the right and
give you the results. The search capability is even stronger
this time, displaying all the matching apps and files
instantaneously.
5.Windows To Go: Windows To Go allows users to make a copy of
their OS complete with their settings, wallpapers, files and
even apps, into a USB thumb drive. Plugged it into another
computer with Windows 8 already installed, and you can boot up
the PC and make it look exactly alike the OS you normally use,
with all settings intact.
