Keva sighed as she made it to a door she had only seen once
before. After a slight sigh she knocked on it. She waited for a
moment then the door popped open. She made her way in as she
looked around.
Kofi. I'm sorry for the mess you guys.. I've been doing a lot of
running around as of late..
Keva. No worries. I know you're naturally a messy person..
After she shut the door behind her, she made her way to the
livingroom and sat on the couch grabbing the remote. Kofi
appears shortly after she'd made herself comfortable, and he
looks at her slightly confused.
Kofi. I thought MJ and Aaliyah would be with you..
Keva. Not this time brother...
She had already decided she didn't want to talk about her
current predicament before she'd even gotten into her first
Uber.. When she made it to the airport, she realized the bad
weather Carver City was expecting would leave her stuck in
Aventura. After calling her brother, she called a second Uber to
get her to his house.
Keva wanted to give MJ the space he needed to sort through
whatever it was that he was going through, and she didn't want
to bother him in the process so she was determined not to.
Kofi eventually joined her in the living room taking a seat next
to her.
Kofi. Well..? Where is your family?
Keva. At Amiya's barbecue I suppose..
Kofi. Why aren't you there with them? Did you guys have an
argument?
Keva shook her head.
Keva. There was no argument.. I just.. -sigh- We just.... Why
can't I come visit my brother without all of the questions?
Kofi looked at her for a moment then he nodded. Keva turned her
attention back to the tv as he stood up.
Kofi. You hungry?
Keva. I'm starving..
Kofi smirked.
Kofi. Good.. I just finished cooking Jollof rice..
Keva. Really?
Kofi nodded and she smiled. Jollof rice was one of her favorite
dishes from back home, and it was the perfect dish to soothe her
soul.
Kofi. You relax.. I'll fix your plate..
Keva nodded and continued to flip through the tv.. Once Kofi
returned, he handed her a plate with a fork, and he took his
seat next to her again with his own plate. After a few moments
of silence passed, Kofi looked over at her.
Kofi. So.. How is everything?
Keva glanced over at him.
Keva. It's fine.... How is everything with you?
Kofi. Well.. It's going... The app is great.. It still has a few
bugs, but we should have them all worked out by the end of next
week..
Keva nodded and swallowed.
Keva. Good.... This is really good though brother..
Kofi. Thank you... How's Calvin?
Keva. He's good.. He decided to stay near Carver City, and he
has a girlfriend now... She's really nice..
Kofi. Oh yeah?
Keva nodded. The silence fell over them as the tv and their
forks tapping their plates was the only thing heard. Once they
were both done, Kofi took their plates to the kitchen. Just as
he had walked off, Keva felt a notification vibrate on her
phone. Her heart skipped a beat as she hoped it was MJ, but she
was let down when she saw it was a reminder from an app on her
phone. She unlocked it and read the notification.
"Did you forget to log? Is your period late? Please update your
log so we can help you keep track of your fertility."
For the last few weeks they had been moving around, and she
hadn't noticed that her cycle should be approaching. As she went
further into the app, she realized her cycle was now 5 days
late, and she hadn't had any symptoms of it approaching.
She then made her way to the restroom, and realized her body
wasn't behaving like it normally would. "You're never more than
3 days late Keva.. Even when you're stressed out..... Are
you....? Na.. You can't be.... Not now.."
She looked in the mirror at herself for a while, then she took a
seat on the toilet as she held her head in her hands. While she
was still gathering her thoughts, she jumped at a knock on the
door.
Kofi. Hey.. You alright in there? The food was good right?
Keva. Yeah.. The food was great... And I'm fine... -sigh- Where
is your nearest drug store? I need to get lady products...
She took a deep breath and stood up. She opened the door and
Kofi looked at her.
Kofi. Lady products?
Keva raised her eye brows and he finally understood what she was
talking about.
Kofi. Oh! Umm.. It's right next door.. You want me to come with
you?
She shook her head and rushed back for her purse.
Keva. No.. I'll be fine.. I'll be right back..
... When she made her way to the store, she grabbed a small box
of tampons and against her better judgement she also grabbed a
home pregnancy test. She wasn't sure what to think, but she knew
something wasn't right. As she walked back to Kofi's condo, she
tried her hardest to remember the last time she had taken her
pill, but instead she began thinking about how strange she had
been feeling lately. Before long, she found herself in the
mirror again in her brother tshirt and basketball shorts staring
at herself as her phone buzzed effectively ending the three
minute wait. She looked down at the plastic stick and her eyes
instantly swelled with tears. Her legs got weak and she found
herself sitting on the floor with the stick in her hand as the
dual bright pink lines stared back at her.
"What now?"
