Realization

Lacy sat in Tristan's apartment, where she had been for the last
few days, and she watched as Aeson stumbled across the floor.
She couldn't help but smile at Aeson's smile. He made his way to
her on the couch and began patting her legs. She smiled at him
and began to play with him. Tristan made his way from the
kitchen with a cup of juice for Aeson, and he handed the cup to
Aeson and he got comfortable on the couch next to her. She
looked over at Tristan and smiled at him. After going through so
much, she was glad that he was helping her through it.
Lacy. Tristan..
Tristan. Yes babe?
They looked at each other for a moment.
Tristan. Gimme a kiss...
He looked over at her as she leaned in to him, they're lips
touched softly, then she kissed him for a second time. Once they
released he continued to mess with Aeson too while Lacy watched
them and smiled.
Lacy. I want you to know that I really do appreciate you
Tristan..
Tristan smiled at her as she looked at him reaching out to touch
his face,.
Tristan. What have I done Lacy? -smile- Nothing special..
Lacy. I think it has been special.... -smile- You've been
absolutely amazing to me and Aeson over this last year... And
you didn't even know me... -sigh- When I lost my husband I
didn't know what I would do, but then we met..... And you've
been nothing short of a blessing..
Lacy paused for a moment then smiled over at him.
Lacy. For the first time in a really long time, I've been able
to breathe... And really enjoy life again.. I owe that to you...
I can't thank you enough.. For everything.
She was grateful for Tristan because they met during a difficult
period in her life, and he had grown to be a valuable part of
her support system. He was one of the first people that she
would call with any good news, and she also could call him for
any advice. The friendship they'd built made her appreciate his
good and bad qualities, and she wanted him to know that he was
valued in her life. She had been silent on the feelings she'd
had for him, but she figured now would be a good time to let him
know exactly what he meant to her, and she hoped he would
understand.
Before he could respond to her, her phone rang and she paused
seeing it was her mother.
Lacy. Oh.. Um. Let me take this..
Tristan. By all means..
Lacy stood up from the couch as she answered Laila's call.
Lacy. Hello ma?
Laila. Lacy...
Lacy. Yes ma..
Laila. What are you doing? Where are you at?
She showed a full picture is herself, then she switched the
camera to Tristan and Aeson who were playing on his couch.
Laila. Awwww! Hey babyboy! Hey Tristan!
Tristan. Hey over there...
Laila. I'll be visiting soon... Will I need a room?
Lacy. No ma.. You know I have plenty of room at the house...
Laila. Okay.. That's all I wanted... And to see my grand baby...
How is my son-in-law doing?
Lacy blushed and Tristan spoke up.
Tristan. I'm good Miss Laila..
Laila. Good. I can't wait to meet you... I've heard so many good
things...
Tristan. I can't wait to meet you either..
Lacy smiled as she shook her head.
Lacy. Is there anything else you need honey?
Laila. I guess that's all.. Just be looking for me. I'll be
there soon..

Tristan stood up with Aeson as Lacy hung up the call.
Tristan. I'm gonna go change him.
Lacy. I can do it.
Tristan. Girl, sit your butt on that couch. I done changed his
diaper 100 times.
Tristan walked to the bedroom with a smile and laid Aeson on the
bed. He began pulling out things from his baby bag and looked at
Aeson.
Tristan. I love you guys, kid.
Aeson played with his keys with not a care in the world.
Tristan. You guys are the best thing that's happened to me since
Nyla. Your mom is...
Tristan sighed as he began cleaning Aeson.
Tristan. Can't even describe her. You're lucky you have her in
your life...and I'm lucky to have y'all in mine. I didn't think
I was going to love anybody again, then boom. You two pop up
like Nyla sent y'all directly to me.
He began putting the clean diaper on him.
Tristan. I guess I shouldn't be telling you this, huh? Your mom
needs to hear this, I guess.
Tristan tossed the dirty diaper into the trash.
Aeson. Dada up!
He paused and turned around, looking at Aeson who was reaching
for him with a smile.
Aeson. Dada up! Up!
Tristan slowly walked to him and picked him up, carrying him
back to the living room where Lacy was putting on her
shoes.[/center]

Lacy looked over at Tristan as he held Aeson in his arms. Aeson
held onto Tristan has he waved his plastic keys at Lacy. She
walked over to him smiling and he began reaching for her.
She accepted Aeson into her arms while she picked up her keys
off of the counter.
Tristan. Yall leaving?
Lacy smiled.
Lacy. We'll be back.. Samone can't find her keys so I'm going to
let her in... I also need to stop by the pharmacy before Aeson
runs out of medicine and it's on the way..
Tristan nodded as Lacy walked over to him kissing his cheek.
... After a while she and Aeson had let Samone and Ava into the
house again, and she had stopped by the neighborhood pharmacy.
Now she was heading back to Tristan's house, but another thought
crossed her mind. She decided to make a detour as she drove by
the park. She took a deep breath as she parked and she turned
around looking at Aeson as he looked around as much as he could
to see his surroundings..
She got him out of the car and they walked a few ways over to a
spot she and Amir found while she was still pregnant with Aeson.
They made several trips to the park for walks, and this
particular spot was quiet, and it had a great view of the pond
and the ducks. She walked out onto the small dock, as the breeze
blew through their hair.
Lacy. Amir.. If you can hear me out there... I... I still miss
you but I know now God had different plans for us.... And
Aeson... Aeson would have loved you so much. He's so handsome...
When he's old enough I'll tell him about you... I just hope
you're at peace now... Us? We're alright.. I've had some help
coping with all of this.. There's a really great guy in our
life, and he's great with Aeson too... He's a widow too, and it
feels like you sent him to us.. He's everything I could have
asked for in a friend, and I'm.. I'm in love with him..
Before she could finish getting out her thoughts, her phone
rang. She paused and pulled it from her pocket seeing it was her
big brother.
Lacy smiled and answered.
Lacy. Hey buhbub..
Lamar. Hey babygirl... What are you doing?
Lacy. Uh. Aeson and I just stopped at the park real quick..
Lamar. Oh.. Having fun?
Lacy. I just wanted to talk to Amir..
Lamar. Oh... -sigh- Uh. Give me a call back when you make it
home..
Lacy. I dont know when that will be...
Lamar. Yeah.. It's coo. I know.. Just call me whenever you get
there.
Lacy. Okay..
Lacy was slightly confused, but she obliged anyways, and they
wrapped up their call. She looked out at the water then back at
Aeson.
Lacy. Can you said I love you dada?
Aeson smiled.
Aeson. Iluh chu dada!
Lacy smiled and touched his cheek as she began to make her way
back to the car.

Tristan stood in his home office as he spoke on the phone.
Tristan. Mama, we'll get down there soon, okay?
Cheryl. Well, your last two trips got cancelled.
Tristan. That was a work thing, ma.
Cheryl. I know, you said already.
Tristan sighed.
Tristan. Look, I promise, we'll be down there for the family
reunion. You'll get to meet her then.
Cheryl. And that baby?
Tristan. Yes, and Aeson, too.
Cheryl. Good. You let me know when y'all coming and I'll make
some jambalaya.
Tristan. Yes ma'am. I love you, okay?
Just as Tristan hung up, the door opened and Lacy walked in. He
smiled as she sat Aeson's baby bag down. His phone vibrated with
a text and he read it to himself before sighing.
Tristan. Ugh, these beautiful faces would walk in right when I
have a meeting to go to.
Lacy. What meeting?
Tristan. Elijah just finished a sensational rookie season, so
everybody and their mama is trying to endorse him.
Lacy. Grind doesn't stop, huh?
Tristan. At all. I'm cooking tonight so you guys relax.
Tristan leaned down and kissed their heads before grabbing his
keys and making his way out of the door...
...Tristan stood in the warehouse and checked his watch, shaking
his head. Just as he was getting fed up and ready to leave, the
door opened. He looked up and shook his head.
Tristan. You're late.
??. I know.
Tristan. I don't know how in the hell you expect me to help if
you're going to miss meetings.
??. There was an accident on the highway, what you want me to
do?
Tristan. Find another damn route!
They looked at each other.
Tristan. Listen, man, Lacy doesn't know anything about this,
okay?
??. She's a Winston, she's got to know something.
Tristan. She doesn't. Any time I bring it up, she's oblivious.
??. Tristan...you've got to dig deeper, okay?
Tristan. I'm not comfortable with this, man. I love that girl
and if she figures out what the fuck is happening, she's going
to be crushed. I can't do her like that.
??. He's guilty. We know he's guilty. We just need proof.
Tristan. Lacy doesn't have it, okay? If you want Lorenzo so bad,
you're going to have to find another way to do it.
Tristan began walking off.
??. So, what you're saying is that you actually want the world
to know who you really are, Darius?
Tristan stopped in his tracks and turned around, looking at one
of the few people in the world who could make everything crash
down.
??. Don't play with me. Because I'll air your shit out, kid.
Find me what I'm looking for, or all of it goes away. Lacy and
Aeson, your little empire you're building, even that wonderful
little "family" down south that's been covering for you all
these years. Get me Lorenzo Winston, or the world will know all
the secrets of Darius Chambers.
