Corzen Foster-White
"That is quite an odd combination, isn't it?" He agreed, pulling
a face and downing a gulp of his water.
"Hey! Pepper thief!" she cried, pointing at him. "When you steal
a piece of a sandwich, you owe that person a cookie. It's
totally law and everything! I'll be waiting on my cookie. I like
chewy chocolate-chocolate chip the best." He rose from his seat,
bowing to her playfully.
"As you wish, Miss Erin." he nodded slightly and moved over to
the counter, returning a few moments later with three cookies
for the girl. He grinned, sliding into his seat as she squealed
happily across from him. "I hope that these will pardon my
offense. And any future crimes I may commit." He winked at her
and returned to his meal.
"I can't believe you actually got me cookies!" She said before
bursting into a small fit of giggles. He chuckled and raised one
eyebrow at her, smirking slightly.
"What kind of man would I be if I didn't compensate for my
transgressions?" he inquired, leaning forward a bit. "Such a
simple way to repay you for my thievery." He watched as she
removed the cookies from their paper, offering one to him.
"I said I get a cookie from you, but you get the other one for
actually doing it and being awesome!" Corzen smiled softly and
shook his head, gesturing for her to keep the treat.
"I am truly sorry, Miss Erin, but I simply cannot accept that
cookie from you." he said, his tone playful. "I may feel the
need to steal off of your plate again, so you must keep that one
to pardon me in case I can't control me impulses again." He
closed her eyes and sighed heavily, rethinking his sentence. "I
assure that wasn't meant to come out the way it did."

"I can't believe you actually got me cookies!" Erin squealed,
happily unwrapping them from the paper. They were just the kind
she liked, too, and she breathed in the sweet smell of the
chocolate.
"What kind of man would I be if I didn't compensate for my
transgressions?" he inquired, leaning forward a bit. Erin beamed
as she broke one of the cookies into two halves, happy to feel
it was a chewy cookie, and not crumbly. "Such a simple way to
repay you for my thievery."
"I said I get a cookie from you, but you get the other one for
actually doing it and being awesome!" Erin handed him one of the
cookies, arm outstretched, her face still stretched in a smile.
She made a cookie joke, and someone actually went with it. A
near-stranger actually went and spent money getting her cookies
because she made a joke about them. And here he was sitting
across from her, smiling and shaking his head at her. "What? I
didn't spit on it! You watched me!" Erin laughed, trying to hide
her laughter behind one of the cookies.
"I am truly sorry, Miss Erin, but I simply cannot accept that
cookie from you." he said, his tone playful. "I may feel the
need to steal off of your plate again, so you must keep that one
to pardon me in case I can't control me impulses again."
Erin laughed, and Corzen closed his eyes as if he'd seen
something he wasn't supposed to. For a second, she wondered if
she missed something, glancing back to see what it might have
been. She looked back at him, still smiling. "Huh?"
"I assure that wasn't meant to come out the way it did."
"What? I missed it! What do you mean?" But her attention went
back to the cookies. "So you're just gonna steal the cookie,
right?" Erin asked, setting it down beside her sandwich and
leaning forward. "Are you a clepto, Corzen? Or is stealing my
food just an excuse to be near my awesome?" She made a show of
smiling proudly, pushing her hair back from her shoulder.

god, that didn't come out right at all. He squeezed his shut and
sighed.
"Huh?"
"I assure that wasn't meant to come out the way it did." He felt
his cheeks heating up as he opened one eye to look at her.
"What? I missed it! What do you mean?" His flush deepened and he
picked idly at his sandwich, plucking pieces of bread off of the
top and rolling them between his thumb and forefinger.
"I didn't mean that I can't control my impulses." he explained,
dropping his gaze. "I just meant that I might be tempted to
steal more of your food and should I give in to that temptation,
you'll already have your payment."
"So you're just gonna steal the cookie, right?" she asked,
leaning forward, "Are you a clepto, Corzen? Or is stealing my
food just an excuse to be near my awesome?" He raised an eyebrow
at her and chuckled shaking his head, leaning in close.
"You've caught me, Miss Erin. Your awesome is just so...
intoxicating." he whispered dramatically, "Must you foil my
plans, you clever girl?"

"I didn't mean that I can't control my impulses," Corzen
explained, though Erin still didn't see what was so
embarrassing. "I just meant that I might be tempted to steal

Erin smiled. "So you're just gonna steal the cookie, right?" she
asked, leaning forward, "Are you a clepto, Corzen? Or is

He raised an eyebrow at her and chuckled shaking his head, also
leaning in to meet her halfway. "You've caught me, Miss Erin.
Your awesome is just so... intoxicating." he whispered
dramatically. "Must you foil my plans, you clever girl?"
"Mm-hmm!" Erin nodded. "It's what I do!" Quickly, she took half
of the cookie she'd broken off and set it on top of his sandwich
bread. She plucked off a piece of the bread and popped it in her
mouth. "And now you have to keep it. You're foiled again!"

with great amusement as his companion placed half of her cookie

have to keep it. You're foiled again!" It was at that moment
that Corzen decided that he very much liked Erin's company.
"Curse you!" he played along, frowning exaggeratedly down at the
cookie before breaking off a piece and popping it in his mouth.
"Such an evil, wicked woman, forcing upon me this... this
chocolaty goodness!" He lifted his gaze back her face and sighed
dramatically. "Though who am I to ignore the request of such a
lovely lady?" He grabbed his water and lifted it to his lips,
taking a small sip. The open bottle caught the edge of the table
as he attempted to set it down, a bit of the liquid slopping
into his lap and onto his sketchpad and the table.
"Oh!" His eyes widened a bit as he moved his sandwich over and
lifted the pad from the bench, placing it on the table and
dabbing it carefully with several napkins.
"S-Sorry about that," he murmured, flushing and sliding his
sketchpad back down onto the bench. "I'm not always the most
coordinated person."

Erin made a show out of placing half a cookie on Corzen's food
and "sneaking" a piece of bread from his sandwich. She smirked.
"And now you have to keep it. You're foiled again!"
"Curse you!" Corzen explained, sending a glare at the cookie
before breaking off a piece and popping it in his mouth. Erin
couldn't hold back the laughter as he continued, "Such an evil,
wicked woman, forcing upon me this... this chocolaty goodness!"
"I'm a regular Maleficent!" Erin managed between giggles. To
subdue herself, Erin quickly took a large bite out of one of the
remaining cookies. The rest of it she held in front of her
mouth, like a little cookie mask, in effort to keep her own
amusement a little bit under control.
"Though who am I to ignore the request of such a lovely lady?"
Erin shrugged, grinning, as she tossed wayfaring hair behind her
shoulder. "Well, I am--"
"Oh!" Corzen must have spilled his water, because suddenly he
was fervently sopping up his area of the table.
"Oh, here!" Erin piled her napkins into a wad and leaned over,
dabbing up whatever water she could find. "Okay... it's mostly
dry, right?"
"S-Sorry about that," he murmured, putting his things back in
their places. "I'm not always the most coordinated person."
"I thought you were just testing if the table was waterproof,"
Erin replied with a smile. "By the way, it's not." She shook her
head. "I coulda saved you the time. Oh... Did your thingy get
ruined?" Erin pointed at the drawing paper, genuine concern on
her face.

"Curse you!" He exclaimed playfully as he glared down at the
cookie before breaking off and piece and pooping it in his
mouth. "Such an evil, wicked woman, forcing upon me this... this

"I'm a regular Maleficent!" She just got the words out amidst a
fit of giggles, which she promptly stifled with bit of cookie.
He watched her with great amusement as she held up the remaining
cookie in front of her mouth.
"Though who am I to ignore the request of such a lovely lady?"
Prompting a shrug and a grin from his companion.
Erin flicked some hair over her shoulder and began to speak,
"Well, I am--"
"Oh!" Corzen interrupted as his water slopped onto his
belongings, causing him to frantically attempt to mop up the
mess.
"Oh, here!" Suddenly, Erin's hand was in his vision as she
dabbed at the table. "Okay... it's mostly dry, right?"
"S-Sorry about that," he murmured, slipping his sketchpad down
onto the bench next to him. "I'm not always the most coordinated
person."
"I thought you were just testing if the table was waterproof,"
She commented as she smiled over at him, "By the way, it's not.
I coulda saved you the time." He cringed a bit, shaking his head
in response.
"It appears my sandwich isn't either." He observed as he poked
at the soggy parts of his bread and shrugged.
[b]"Oh... Did your thingy get ruined?" Corzen glanced down at
his sketchpad reflexively and sighed a bit. Most of the picture

/>had been spared, only a few of the lines were smudged and
faded.
"Not completely, no." He responded, placing it carefully on the
table. "The picture is a bit fuzzy in places, but the pad itself
is good." Wrinkling his nose, he ran his fingers over the
smudged lines and sighed again.
"Oh well, it wasn't that good anyway." He murmured, "I suppose
that is what I get for attempting it from memory."

Out of nowhere, water spilled everywhere, but mostly just on
Corzen and his stuff. Immediately, Erin grabbed a handful of
napkins and tried soaking up the biggest puddles of water.
"Okay... it's mostly dry, right?"
For some reason Erin didn't get, Corzen apologized. None of her
stuff had gotten wet, so it didn't matter about her stuff. "I'm
not always the most coordinated person."
"I thought you were just testing if the table was waterproof,"
She commented as she smiled over at him. "By the way, it's not.
I coulda saved you the time." She wanted him to laugh again, but
she'd just need to keep trying.
"It appears my sandwich isn't either." Corzen poked sadly at the
moist sandwich. Erin frowned.
"Aww... that sucks..." An idea hit her, and she pulled off the
part of hers that she hadn't bit into already, wrapping it in a
napkin. "Here!" She set it down before him on the now-cleaned
spot without heeding his response. She turned to sit back down
when her eye caught the sketchpad next to him.
"Oh... Did your thingy get ruined?"
"Not completely, no." He responded, picking it back up and
looking at it. "The picture is a bit fuzzy in places, but the
pad itself is good." Wrinkling his nose, he ran his fingers over
the smudged lines and sighed again.
Erin's mouth shifted into a pout. "Aww... I don't want you to
lose your art... Can you blow-dry it?" she blurted, then
immediately regretted asking such a stupid question. The heat of
embarrassment rushed to her face, but she did her best to ignore
it, forcing herself to keep focused on him instead of making it
worse by burying under the table the way she wanted to.
"Oh well, it wasn't that good anyway. I suppose that is what I
get for attempting it from memory."
"Oh, shut up, it is so good!" She frowned at him, serious. "If
you're good at something, you should be proud of it, even if
water spills on it, so there!" She shifted from side to side,
the last song she'd played on her ipod now stuck in her head.
"Like me.... I know I rock at doodling stars and hearts and
music notes! I have the prettiest math notebook in all the
class. Nothing's in it, but it's pretty!" She grinned, hoping to
make him feel better about the ruined piece.

"It appears my sandwich isn't either." He replied, shrugging and
poking at his damp sandwich.
"Aw... that sucks..." the girl paused for a moment before
something flashed across her face and she tore off a piece of
her sandwich. She wrapped the sandwich in a napkin and placed it
in front of him. "Here!" He flushed brightly and looked down at
the food as he nibbled on his bottom lip.
"Oh, Miss Erin." He started, lifting gaze to catch her eyes. "I
couldn't accept your food. Thank you though."

he smiled at her reassuringly.
"I'm afraid not, as much as I would like to." he replied, "Oh
well, it wasn't that good anyway. I suppose that is what I get
for attempting it from memory."
"Oh, shut up, it is so good!" Erin argued with a frown.
"The proportions are all off and I messed up the shading." He
murmured, tracing his fingers over the picture again.

"Here!" Erin pulled off the uneaten part of her sandwich and
placed it on his part of the table. He couldn't just sit there
with a ruined lunch.
"Oh, Miss Erin, I couldn't accept your food. Thank you though."
"No, it's not mine, it's yours!" She pointed. "See, it's on your
side and everything. No gives-backsies." She gave him a glare,
silently daring him to break her made-up rule. Then her eyes
fell on his sketchpad, the one he seemed to kind of be babying
now. Her playful face fell just a bit. "Oh... Did your thingy
get ruined?"
"Not completely, no." He responded, picking it back up and
looking at it. "The picture is a bit fuzzy in places, but the
pad itself is good." It didn't look like it was good, though. He
was staring at it so sadly, like good actually meant bad.
"Aw... I don't want you to lose your art... Can you blow-dry
it?" she asked reassuringly.
"I'm afraid not, as much as I would like to," he replied. "Oh
well, it wasn't that good anyway. I suppose that is what I get

"Oh, shut up, it is so good!" Erin argued with a frown. And it
really was. It frustrated her that he didn't think so, about his
own art.
"The proportions are all off and I messed up the shading."
Corzen kept looking at it so forlornly, like it was a lost
treasure he'd never be able to recover. She felt her face
reflect his own, falling into a frown.
"If you're good at something, you should be proud of it, even if
water spills on it, so there!" Erin shifted in her seat, feeling
more energy than she knew what to do with. Her fingers played
with the dangling star on her necklace. "Like me.... I know I
rock at doodling stars and hearts and music notes! I have the
prettiest math notebook in all the class. Nothing's in it, but
it's pretty!"
"Thank you," Corzen replied in a whisper. "I just know I could
do better and I want it to be perfect."
Erin reached over to take the sketch pad, giving it a closer
look. "He's gorgeous already," she observed. "Probably really
hard to draw people that gorgeous." She nodded, giving the
drawing back to him. "I think if you did it once, though, you
can do it again! And practice makes perfect, so you can make it
better the next go-round, right? I mean," she said, kicking her
feet below the table. "I have to rehearse a song like 12 times
before I even get one copy that I like enough to keep it
recorded."
