Erin Spenser
After waiting in line forever, Erin still had trouble deciding
on what she wanted on her sandwich when it was her turn to
order. Through too much hem-hawing around, she finally decided
on an overly messy but delicious meatball sub. Marinara sauce
was God's gift to beef. And she hadn't eaten anything since
breakfast, since lunch got all screwed up. (She'd had to go to a
required extra-study session and didn't get a chance to grab a
lunch.... which sucked.) So by the time the sub was in her
hands, Erin was starving. On the plus side, that would make it
taste all the better.
With one hand, Erin held the sandwich, and with the other, she
scrolled through Youtube. She had the volume up, forgetting that
her earbuds weren't plugged in, but just sitting uselessly in
her ears, as she watched music videos. It was so interesting to
her, the way you could interpret a song in so many different
ways visually. Sometimes videos made no sense and didn't seem to
relate to their songs at all, and other times they were so
serious and real that they ripped your heart out and stomped on
it. And some were exciting adrenaline rushes, showcasing the
live skills of the band, and there was everything in between.
Erin wondered if she could get into directing, too, or if
directing her own band's videos was doable. She also wondered
why she'd ordered banana peppers on a meatball sub, but she ate
it anyway.

Corzen Foster-White
Sketchbook in hand, Corzen entered the sub shop and moved to
stand in the back of the line. The shop always seemed to be
extremely busy, which wasn't overly surprising, but sometimes
the wait grated on his nerves a bit. Today, how every, he
welcomed the line and curled his shoulders forward, hunching
over his sketch book and adding onto one of his drawings. He was
so caught up in his work that he didn't realize it was his turn
until someone knocked their shoe against his impatiently.
"Oh! Sorry," he mumbled, moving forward and rambling off his
order. He always got the same thing, a tuna sub and a bottle of
water, he was pretty sure someone knew that because his food was
ready only a minute or so after ordering. Smiling politely, he
handed a few dollars over to the cashier and turned to find a
place to sit. He frowned a bit as he saw that all of the tables
were taken. He noticed a familiar looking brunette, headphones
plugged into her ears... but not her phone, which made him smile
softly.
"Erm... excuse me, Miss... Miss...," he frowned as he tried to
recall her name, "Erin! Miss Erin. Would you mind terribly if I
sat with you? I could go eat outside."

Erin Spenser
The last chords of "Help Is on the Way" faded out as Erin took
another bite of her sandwich. Just as she clicked play on the
next video, a voice broke in, pulling her attention away.
"Erm... excuse me, Miss... Miss... Erin! Miss Erin. Would you
mind terribly if I sat with you? I could go eat outside."
Erin looked up, her mouth still full, and saw it was that Corzen
guy, who reminded her of a puppy that could recite poetry. Like
that little Wishbone dog. Aw, he was a cute dog.... I wonder
what happened to him? She took out one of her earbuds to hear
him better, and then realized that she hadn't had her earbuds
plugged in the entire time. Glancing down at the dangling cord,
Erin mumbled, "Oops."
She plugged it in, and looked back at Corzen, trying to hurry up
with the bite of food in her mouth so she could talk to him.
Taking a sip of her root beer, Erin finally nodded, her mouth
free for words to come. "Yeah, no, it's fine here!" She glanced
outside at the overcast sky and wrinkled her nose. "You don't
wanna sit outside. It's gross today." She patted the empty space
of the table across from her. "Here! It's just for you!"

"Erm... excuse me, Miss... Miss... Erin! Miss Erin. Would you
mind terribly if I sat with you? I could go eat outside." Erin
looked up, her eyes distracted for a second just before she
noticed her ear buds weren't plugged in. Corzen chuckled a bit,
his smile widening ever so slightly.
"Yeah, no, it's fine here!" She wrinkled her nose cutely before
finishing her statement, "You don't wanna sit outside. It's
gross today." He bit his lip and glanced outside. It was rather
gross and he really didn't want to sit outside, but he also
didn't want to impose.
"Are you positive? I really don't wish to bother you, if you
prefer to not have company right now." he said, twisting his
lips, "I can't sat that I mind the... rain, all that much." He
chuckled nervously and scratched the back of his neck as it
began to rain harder.
Erin patted the seat across from her, "Here! It's just for you!"
He sighed with relieve and slid in across from her, setting his
sketchbook down next to him on the seat.
"Thank you very much, Miss Erin. I much prefer your company to
sit alone in the rain." He murmured, unwrapping his sandwich and
pausing for a moment before taking a bite. He nodded toward her
phone, "What are you listening to? Erm... if you don't mind me
asking."

"You don't wanna sit outside," Erin insisted, glancing behind
her out the window. "It's gross today."
"Are you positive? I really don't wish to bother you, if you
prefer to not have company right now." Corzen seemed to think
pinking out a seat was super important or something. She smiled,
shaking her head. "Dude, no, it's fine."
"I can't sat that I mind the... rain, all that much."
"Yeah, but I mind the rain, so..." Erin patted the seat across
from her. "Here! It's just for you!"
Finally, Corzen seemed convinced she meant it. Which was funny
to think about, really. Like, did he really feel like he needed
to be convinced? Who would offer a seat if they didn't actually
want to offer it? That was just pointless.
"Thank you very much, Miss Erin. I much prefer your company to
sit alone in the rain."
"Of course! The rain makes bread soggy, and soggy sandwiches are
like the devil." She nodded seriously. "And then your phone gets
all wet, and then everything just sucks after that."
"What are you listening to? Erm... if you don't mind me asking."
Erin looked at her phone, and then turned it so that Corzen
could see. "Well, first it was this Rise Against song that, of
course, has to have a real thingy-type video to go with it,
because that's how they roll, and it's awesome, but I can't get
my heart ripped out by an entire album, you know?" She laughed,
as if it was a widely-known fact. "But just now it was the Black
Keys. I'm looking at their different kinds of music videos, you
know, for science!" She gave another laugh, putting the phone
down on the table in case he wanted to see what she was
watching. With both hands, Erin took another bite, enjoying the
deliciousness, despite the weird tang of banana pepper on it.
"Remind me not to mix banana peppers with marinara again," she
said, words muffled. "It's a weird combination."

"Thank you very much, Miss Erin. I much prefer your company to
sit alone in the rain." He said, stopping for a moment to take a
bite of his sandwich.
"Of course! The rain makes bread soggy, and soggy sandwiches are
like the devil." She looked so serious that he couldn't help but
chuckle openly, lifting one hand to his mouth.
"They are pretty awful," he agreed, wrinkling his nose a bit.
"And then your phone gets all wet, and then everything just
sucks after that." He could only smile and shake his head at
her, before gesturing to her phone.
"What are you listening to? Erm... if you don't mind me asking."

"You are very passionate about music, aren't you, Miss Erin?" He
asked, meeting her eyes. "Your eyes light up when you discuss it
and... even though I have no idea who these people are, you make
me what to hear more, know more."
She took a bite of her sandwich and make the slightest of
disgusted faces, "Remind me not to mix banana peppers with
marinara again. It's a weird combination." He chuckled again and
reached over, picking up a pepper that had fallen out of her
sandwich and popping it in his mouth without thinking. He
cringed a bit, making a face as if he'd eaten something sour,
before taking a long sip of his water.
"That is quite an odd combination, isn't it?"

"Of course! The rain makes bread soggy, and soggy sandwiches are
like the devil." She nodded seriously, somehow managing to make
Corzen laugh. She didn't know what she'd done so funny, but it
didn't really matter anyway.
"They are pretty awful," Corzen agreed as Erin continued, glad
to have engagement now.
"And then your phone gets all wet, and then everything just
sucks after that."
"What are you listening to? Erm... if you don't mind me asking."
"Well, first it was this Rise Against song that, of course, has
to have a real thinky-type video to go with it, because that's
how they roll, and it's awesome, but I can't get my heart ripped
out by an entire album, you know?" She laughed and he did, too.
"But just now it was the Black Keys. I'm looking at their
different kinds of music videos, you know, for science!"
"You are very passionate about music, aren't you, Miss Erin?"
His words made her grin as he continued, "Your eyes light up
when you discuss it and... even though I have no idea who these
people are, you make me what to hear more, know more."
"Mm! Oh! Okay, look here!" she said, her volume increasing
alongside her excitement. "I was watching the video for 'Little
Black Submarines' from The Black Keys, and I think you might
like it!" Really, she didn't have any idea what he liked, but
the lyrics were interesting, and there was that complete shift
at 1:00, and they had a Zepplin sound to them, and everyone
could appreciate some Led Zepplin-esque stuff, right? She turned
her phone around so he could see it and pressed play on the
screen.
Another bite of the sandwich reminded Erin of her culinary
mistake. "Remind me not to mix banana peppers with marinara
again. It's a weird combination."
Giving a laugh, Corzen reached out to test her words by stealing
an escaped pepper. He liked it less than she did, apparently,
announcing, "That is quite an odd combination, isn't it?"
"Hey! Pepper thief!" Erin pointed at him in feigned accusation.
"When you steal a piece of a sandwich, you owe that person a
cookie. It's totally law and everything! I'll be waiting on my
cookie. I like chewy chocolate-chocolate chip the best." Her
feet swung incessantly under the table as Erin took a long drink
of her coke. She kept her eyes on Corzen, curious to know if
he'd play along or thing she was funny, or if he'd be one of the
people who sucked the fun out of everything.

"You are very passionate about music, aren't you, Miss Erin?
Your eyes light up when you discuss it and... even though I have
no idea who these people are, you make me what to hear more,
know more." He watched her closely, a faint smile playing on his
lips.
"Mm! Oh! Okay, look here!" His smile turned into a full out grin
as she spoke excitedly, "I was watching the video for 'Little
Black Submarines' from The Black Keys, and I think you might
like it!" She showed him the screen and he watched dutifully,
cocking his head to the side just a bit. It wasn't exactly what
he usually listened to, but he had to admit that it was pretty
good. After a moment, he flicked his gaze up to watch Erin as
she focused on the screen. The look she wore was one that he was
all too familiar with, it was nearly identical to the fire that
flickered behind his mother's eyes when she was captivated by a
book; this thought made something warm spread across the pit of
his stomach.
"Remind me not to mix banana peppers with marinara again. It's a
weird combination." The change in topic derailed his train of
thought and he shook his head a bit, reaching over to pluck a
fallen pepper from her plate and pop it in his mouth.
"That is quite an odd combination, isn't it?" he replied,
pulling a face and taking a gulp of his water.
"Hey! Pepper thief!" Erin accused, pointing at him. "When you
steal a piece of a sandwich, you owe that person a cookie. It's
totally law and everything! I'll be waiting on my cookie. I like
chewy chocolate-chocolate chip the best." He felt her gaze on
him, making his skin prickle and his face burn as he stood up,
bowing playfully.
"As you wish, Miss Erin." he nodded at her a bit and moved to
the counter, ordering three cookies for her, before returning to
the table and placing the cookies in front of her. "I hope that
these will pardon my offense. And any future crimes I may
commit." He winked at her and returned to his meal.

After she'd commented on the weird combo she'd picked for her
sandwich, apparently Corzen needed to try it for himself. He
plucked up one of her fallen peppers and gave it a try. And he
agreed with her-- it wasn't so great.
"Hey! Pepper thief!" Erin cried, grinning. "When you steal a
piece of a sandwich, you owe that person a cookie. It's totally
law and everything! I'll be waiting on my cookie. I like chewy
chocolate-chocolate chip the best."
To Erin's surprise, Corzen played along. A lot. He got up, gave
a bow, and said, "As you wish, Miss Erin." He went over to the
counter and actually ordered cookies. Erin's eyes grew wide as
she watched him walk back to the table they were sharing. A
little squeal of joy escaped her as Corzen sat back down. "I
hope that these will pardon my offense. And any future crimes I
may commit." He winked at her and returned to his meal.
"I can't believe you actually got me cookies!" Erin managed to
get out before spilling into giggles. Taking them out of the
paper, Erin handed one of the cookies to him. "For you!" She
gave it to him, kicking her feet below the table in glee over
cookies. "I said I get a cookie from you, but you get the other
one for actually doing it and being awesome!"
