       Paradox Fee
He needed a haircut badly. That was one thing that he kept
realizing. His hair kept falling into his eyes. The other was
how close Corzen was, but also how far away he still remained,
drawing while Dox read from 'The Black Tulip'. He'd forgotten to
send it to his sister, but at the moment he felt no guilt. It
was a book he hadn't read and it gave him an excuse to spend
time with Corzen, although they were still only a very few
       chapters in.
"Five minutes had not elapsed before a long and shrill whistle,
blown in true seaman's style, made itself heard through the
leafy canopy of the elms and above all the uproar of Buytenhof.
John raised his clasped hands heavenwards in thanksgiving. 'And
now,' said he, 'let us be off, Cornielius.' "
That was the end of the second chapter.
Just then, though, Dox's throat was running a bit dry. So he
stopped reading and slipped the bookmark into the pages to mark
       their spot.
"I need some water." He said, glancing over at Corzen, brushing
his hair out of his eyes again.
After finding a water fountain and drinking from it greedily, he
tried to fix his hair so it wouldn't slip into his eyes so
often. He wanted to ask Corzen something, and he really didn't
want to be constantly pushing his hair out of his face.
But his hair, naturally, refused to cooperate. He sighed. Maybe
he'd ask next time. He was scheduled to get a haircut tomorrow
       anyway.
He went back to the common room, sitting down with a sigh.
Things hadn't changed much between them since their first date.
Corzen had made no moves, and Dox was always too hesitant. And
Dox still wasn't sure he would be able to tell his family. He
knew their views, all pro love, etc. But he was just scared. But
he wanted to bring Corzen home and share the news. He just
       didn't know how.

       Corzen Foster-White
His eyes darted up to watch Dox try to read around the strand of
hair that had fallen into his vision... again. He wasn't sure
how long they'd been sitting there, but he wasn't nearly as far
along in his drawing as he should have been, but his attention
kept straying to his boyfriend. The sound of Dox's voice was
equally calming and distracting, making him shift in his place
       occasionally.
"Five minutes had not elapsed before a long and shrill whistle,
blown in true seaman's style, made itself heard through the
leafy canopy of the elms and above all the uproar of Buytenhof.
John raised his clasped hands heavenwards in thanksgiving. 'And
now,' said he, 'let us be off, Cornielius.' " Dox stopped
reading and slipped the bookmark into place as Corzen turned
back to his drawing, narrowing his eyes as he shaded around one
       of the lines.
"I need some water." Dox announced. Corzen put his pencil down
and reached his fingers out to brush them across Dox's hand
without thinking, a shiver running up his spine at the contact.
"Gives me a few minutes to get something drawn without being
distracted by your voice." He teased with a wink, "I can't seem
to get anything done, you're too captivating." He waited until
Dox had to turn back to his sketch pad and groan. Everything
seemed wrong with the picture and he couldn't figure out why. No
matter what he did, he couldn't seem to get it right. Maybe Dox
really was too captivating, there was just something about him
that Corzen couldn't capture on paper.
Leaning back in his seat, he sighed in frustration and scrubbed
a hand over his face. He felt so inept, so incapable. Dox seemed
to have that effect on him, just being in the other boy's
presence made Corzen feel completely inadequate, but he couldn't
say he minded all that much. There was something about the
uncomfortable tugging in his stomach that drove him to do
better. He didn't know if he would ever feel good enough for
Dox, but the feeling of inadequacy made him strive to be a
       better man, to be worthy.
"Why can't I get this right?" he asked in frustration when Dox
entered the room again. "I spend plenty of time looking at you,
I should be able to completely one descent drawing."

"I need some water." Dox announced, having just finished reading
the second chapter. Corzen put his pencil down at the same time
he put the book down, Corzen's fingers reaching out to brush
across Dox's hand, making them both shiver a little bit.
"Gives me a few minutes to get something drawn without being
distracted by your voice." Corzen teased with a wink, "I can't
seem to get anything done, you're too captivating." Dox smiled
back, trying to contain the blush that always threatened to run
unchecked whenever Corzen gave him a compliment.
"Oh, I'm the captivating one now, am I?" He returned with a
smile, then sauntered out to the hallway. He still heard a quiet
moan, probably of frustration. He sighed, and tried to make his
hair cooperate. It kept falling into his eyes, and he was
overdue for a haircut. Not that that was his real reason for
fidgeting. He was more nervous about something else.
He still hadn't told his family about is relationship with
Corzen, and it was starting to become a problem. He just didn't
know how to start. Maybe Corzen could help him with that...
After spending a few more moments trying to get his hair to
behave, he gave up with a growl."Freaking hair." He mumbled,
then walked back to the couch.
"Why can't I get this right?" Corzen asked, frustrated, as Dox
entered the room again."I spend plenty of time looking at you,I
should be able to completely one decent drawing."
"Maybe I'm not being still enough?" Dox offered, shrugging one
shoulder. "Or maybe I should stop messing with my hair so
much..." his faded out, unsure. "I can't really help you out
with that." Secretly, he was pleased that Corzen was trying so
hard to draw him well. It did mean that he cared. And given how
little their dynamic had changed since they'd been officially
dating, Dox was starting to get nervous.
"So, can I ask you something?" He started. He figured the best
way to go about it would be to just jump right in. "Have you
told your parents? About us, I mean...?" He knew his face had
flushed--he could feel the heat. "Its just, I haven't really
found a good way to tell my family. And..." 'and I'd like to
bring you home with me next weekend but I don't have the guts to
ask my family or yours if thats ok' was the rest of that
       sentence.
'And I'd really like to kiss you right now regardless of
whatever else you say' was what would probably have followed.
Corzen's presence drew butterflies into Dox's stomach, and made
him want to press closer just to be closer. It was very
intoxicating, and usually left Dox sounding like an idiot, or
tripping over himself. Right now it was wreaking havoc among the
'common sense' parts of Dox's brain.
"Sorry, I know it's my family, not yours. I'll shut up now." He
really shouldn't make Corzen solve his own problems.

"Gives me a few minutes to get something drawn without being

to get anything done, you're too captivating."
"Oh, I'm the captivating one now, am I?" Dox responded with a
smile before sauntering out into the hallway.
"Always have been!" He called out, turning back to his sketchpad
and letting out a groan. He stared at the drawing for a long
moment, willing it to correct itself; when it didn't, he leaned
back and sighed in frustration as he scrubbed a hand over his
       face.
"Why can't I get this right?" the brunette asked when his
boyfriend re-entered the room. "I spend plenty of time looking
at you, I should be able to complete one decent drawing."
"Maybe I'm not being still enough?" Dox offered, making Corzen
look over at him. "Or maybe I should stop messing with my hair
       so much..."
"I like it like that." Corzen blurted before flushing a looking
away for a moment. He sucked in a deep breath and turned back,
reaching out to brush a strand of hair out of his boyfriend's
       eyes.
       "It's cute." Alluring, even.
"I can't really help you with that." Corzen shook his head
determinedly and dropped his hand down to cup Dox's cheek,
tracing the bone there with the pad of his thumb.
"You're doing wonderfully. You're simply too complex for paper."
He murmured. "My beautiful mystery." His throat went dry and his
eyes widened a little when he realized that he was pushing the
limit, dropping his hand quickly into his lap. His own lap. He
didn't know why he was being so affectionate, but he needed Dox
to be close. Maybe it was because their relationship was sitting
at a stand still; sure, it could be worse, at least it was a
steady stand still... but he was kind of praying for whiplash.
       "Can I ask you something?"
"Anything," Corzen breathed, turning back to his drawing and
making a few well thought out marks.
"Have you told your parents? About us, I mean...? It's just, I
haven't really found a good way to tell my family. And..."
Corzen glanced over at his blushing boyfriend and smiled.
"The Whites? I've spoken with them about it." He answered with a
slight nod. "Lawrence new I liked you as soon as I did. But
remember, it is a different situation for me. I knew they'd
accept the idea of me being with another boy." He turned and
took Dox's hands gently in his own, stroking his thumbs over the
       other boy's knuckles.
"Please don't ever be afraid to talk to me." He begged softly.
"Even if you think it is silly or will upset me. I love knowing
what's going on in your head."

"Oh, I'm the captivating one now,am I?" Dox responded with a
smile before sauntering out into the hallway.
"Always have been!" Corzen called out, but Dox heard the
following groan and knew it was in frustration.
He spent a few minutes trying to get his hair to behave, but his
efforts were futile. It was just too unruly. He would need a
haircut soon, if his mother didn't give him a buzz the next time
he showed up with a 'mangy head of hair', as she called it when
       it got this long.
"Why can't I get this right?" Corzen asked when he re-entered
the room. "I spend plenty of time looking at you, I should be
able to complete one decent drawing."
"Maybe I'm not being still enough?" Dox offered, making Corzen
look over at him. "Or maybe I should stop messing with my hair
       so much..."
Automatically his hand went up and yet again re-arranged the
pile of disobedience that was his hair. It was useless, and his
hair fell right back into his eyes again.
"I like it like that." Corzen blurted before flushing and
looking away for a moment. He then turned back, reaching out to
brush a strand of hair out of his Dox's eyes. This time it
stayed out. All that Dox could think of was that he maybe needed
to reschedule that hair apointment, and how close Corzen was
getting. He was still to far away for what Dox wanted, but he
didn't want to pressure Corzen unnecessarily.
       "It's cute." Dox smiled.
"I can't really help you with that." Dox motioned to the
drawing. Corzen shook his head and dropped his hand down to cup
Dox's cheek, tracing the bone there with the pad ofhis thumb. It
was the softest touch, and the most tender, that Dox had ever
recieved from another human being. It made the butterflies in
his stimach increase, and he was reminded of what he wanted to
       ask Corzen.
"You're doing wonderfully. You're simply too complex for paper."
Corzen murmured, and Dox had to smile. "My beautiful mystery."
Then Corzen pulled back, and Dox wondered what the problem
was-he would have been fine with Corzen continuing to trace his
face until the end of the world. But the burning question drove
everything out of his mind just then.
       "Can I ask you something?"
"Anything," Corzen said quietly, turning back to his drawing.
       Dox moved a little closer.
"Have you told your parents? About us, I mean...? It's just, I
haven't really found a good way to tell my family. And..." He
could tell Corzen was smiling at him, from the corner of his
eye, but he was blushing too furiously to make eye contact just
       then.
"The Whites? I've spoken with them about it." Corzen answered
with a slight nod, and then Dox felt stupid. Of Course Corzen
would be ok with telling his parents.
"Lawrence knew I liked you as soon as I did. But remember, it is
a different situation for me. I knew they'd accept the idea of
me being with another boy." He turned and took Dox's hands
gently in his own, stroking his thumbs over his knuckles. It sent
shivers up and down Dox's spine, but was odly relaxing. He
       didn't say anything, just nodded.
"Please don't ever be afraid to talk to me." Corxen said
softly."Even if you think it is silly or will upset me. I love
knowing what's going on in your head."
"I guess so." Dox said, finally meeting Corzen's eyes. "Um. So
then," he paused, then gave up on the idea of asking it subtly,
"do you want to come home with me?" He gulped, realizing how
that sounded. "To meet my parents, I mean. Next weekend." Even
though he knew Corzen wouldn't laugh-at least not
meanspiritedly-he couldn't help but to pull back a little.
Please, please say yes...or even yes with extra conditions, I
don't care... Just say yes... he thought.
Here he was, the athlete, the outgoing one, the supposedly brave
one, being a coward. The thought would have made him laugh if he
hadn't been on edge for the Corzen's reply.
As if on cue, the piece of hair that Corzen had adjusted fell
       back into his eyes.

"I like it like that." He blurted, a flush spreading across his
cheeks as he looked away. There was a momentary pause before he
turned back, brushing a strand of hair out of Dox's eyes.
"It's cute." Corzen couldn't fight the grin that spread across
his lips as his boyfriend smiled over at him.
"I can't really help you with that." Dox commented, gesturing to
the drawing. The other boy shook his head, dropping his hand
down to cup Dox's cheek and tracing the bone there with the pad
       of his thumb lightly.
"You're doing wonderfully. You're simply too complex for paper."
He murmured softly, prompting another smile from his boyfriend.
"My beautiful mystery." His throat went dry when he realized how
close he was to dipping into uncharted territory. Dropping his
had quickly into his lap, he had to force back the urge to lean
forward and capture Dox's lips with his own.
       "Can I ask you something?"
"Anything," He whispered in response, turning back to his
       drawing.
"Have you told your parents? About us, I mean...? It's just, I

"I guess so." Dox replied as he lifted his eyes to meet Corzen's
gaze. "Um. So then," there was a pause and Corzen squeezed his
boyfriend's hands reassuringly, "do you want to come home with
       me?"
"I-" Corzen broke off, his heart pounding mercilessly in his
       chest.
"To meet my parents, I mean. Next weekend." It wasn't often that
Corzen was shocked speechless, but Dox seemed to have a way of
bringing out his most buried traits. He lifted Dox's hands a bit
and ducked down to press feather light kisses to each one of the
       other boy's knuckles.
"I-" he repeated, swallowing hard and wetting his lips. "I would
love to meet your family, Dox."

what followed in his head. But one step at a time.
"The Whites? I've spoken with them about it." Corzen answered
with a slight nod. "Lawrence new I liked you as soon as I did.
But remember, it is a different situation for me. I knew they'd

yet. But Dox took it as a good sign.
Of course, just then his hair flopped back into his eyes. Dox
lifted his free hand to try and fix it, unsuccessfully. He was
too distracted by how close Corzen was getting.
"I-" Corzen spoke, wetting his lips. "I would love to meet your
       family, Dox."
Now Dox could relax, and he did, moving closer to Corzen,
intending to wrap an arm around his shoulders. Instead he found
himself with his face very close to Corzen's.
The only thing that had time to run through his mind was,
"Corzen really does have pretty eyes". And then he kissed Corzen
       softly on the lips.

       Corzen Foster-White
"I-" He broke off, his heart thundering in his chest and his
       mouth feeling suddenly incredibly dry.
"To meet my parents, I mean. Next weekend." Completely
speechless, he lifted Dox's hand and ducked down to press
feather light kisses along each of the boy's knuckles.
"I-" He started again, wetting his lips. "I would love to meet
your family, Dox." Corzen's heart stuttered as the other boy
shift closer, their faces mere inches apart. He wondered if he
should move away, terrified of making the boy under comfortable.
He barely had time to part his lips, ready to apologize for
being so close, before a pair of warm lips were pressed against
his. Shocked still for a moment, Corzen could hear blood
thundering in his ears; it was then that something clicked
inside of him. It must have been something primal, something
bred into the human race that was locked away in some deep dark
corner until suddenly it wasn't. He pressed forward ever so
slightly, eyes sliding shut and mouth moving gently against
Dox's own. His hand moved to cup his boyfriend's jaw, thumb
caressing the skin there, but never holding him in place or
       pulling him closer.
There were no fireworks like those mentioned in awful romantic
comedies and he was still completely aware of the people moving
in the dorms above them or scuffling around in the hallway, but
he could feel his stomach quiver and a low whine build up in his
throat. The urge to press forward, to get closer, was almost
overwhelming and he had to consciously keep himself in place. A
heat spread through him like a California wildfire, scorching
his lungs and throat and depleting all of his oxygen, causing
him to pull back mournfully. He pressed his forehead against
       Dox's, his eyes still closed.
"I think..." he sucked in a shaky breath. "I thin I would very
much like to do that again."

       Paradox Fee
He had just asked Corzen to meet his family the following
weekend, even though he had yet to come out to his family about
anything. But he didn't really care;all he wanted was for Corzen
       to say yes.
"I-" Corzen took a moment to respond, "I would love to meet your
       family, Dox."
All the tension in Dox's body flooded out, and Dox shifted
closer. Their faces were mere inches apart. Dox wasn't
thinking-he siezed the moment and kissed Corzen square on the
lips, softly, before Corzen shifted away again.
There were no loud, brightly bursting fireworks, and Dox was
uncomfortably aware that the book they had been reading was
likely to start hurting as it started to dig into the bottom of
his leg. But the warm flush that spread from the strangely
absent butterflies in his stomach made everything else
unimportant. The feeling intensified when Corzen returned the
kiss in kind, pressing forward ever so slightly, mouth moving
gently against Dox's own. He felt Corzen's hand move up to rest
on his jaw, caressing the skin there.
He was, for once, out of words, and started to feel the need for
oxygen right as Corzen pulled back. But he didn't pull back all
the way, just rested his forehead on Dox's. Dox didn't move, and
       couldn't speak just yet.
"I think..." said Corzen, quietly, "I think I would very much
       like to do that again."
Dox felt a smile spread on his own face, and he replied, leaning
       in, "As you wish."
This time he was a little more firm, but still gentle. He could
feel the adrenaline running wild, but it was a more slow and
powerful kind of adrenaline. He could feel a fire kindle in his
stomach and his eyes slid shut, savoring the feel of Corzens
lips against his own. His free hand came up, around to find the
other boy's neck where it met the shoulder.
