Potter Westing and Alexandria Heffernan

The students were paired in twos and assigned to raise a family
together. To begin with, they each selected a career from their
chosen concentration and drew a random salary from a hat. They
were then informed that they would be having a child and each
couple was handed a 'pregnancy belly', which one half of the
couple was to be wearing at all times. As the next few weeks
progressed, they would receive at least one baby simulator that
they were to raise together, each with a sensor inside that
logged all damages done to the child.

Alexandria Heffernan
Oh, lovely. Another baby project in health class. She really,
really was sick of them. For whatever reason, her schedule upon
coming to new schools always involved taking the stupidest
classes. She already planned on not ever having kids, her
husband be damned. And if she was 30 before she married,
whatever. But she planned on marring someone with money who
didn't want kids (or rather, who didn't mind not having kids
with her and expecting her to take care of them). Those were her
only two real requirements.
"Partners for the family project are as follows," Mrs. Striker
announced, "Mr. Dawsom and Miss Konigin, congratulations, you're
having a baby."
She snickered.
"Paradox Fee and Clarence Morgan."
She snickered again. That was all she could do for that pair.
She snickered on and off as the pairs were named, until she got
called.
“Potter Westing and Alexandria Heffernan.”
Oh goody. Theater and graphic design. She sighed. At least her
salary was high. She glanced over to where he was sitting, and
then her attention was brought rapidly back to her own desk when
the teacher plopped the belly on her desk.
"Oh, god, not this again..." she muttered. She would do just
about anything not to have to wear that thing again. "Can I
please not wear this thing? Not gonna ever have kids, not a
problem for me." She wasn't hopeful. The teacher ignored her
request and kept reading off pairs.
"Now, I'm sure you are all eager to get
started," the teacher
said, smiling at them all brightly.
"Not even remotely." She sighed, fervently hoping that it would
be a short experience and that she wouldn't have to spend 100%
of the time strapped to the damn pregnancy belly thing.
"But there are a few things that you should be aware of first;
these bellies were constructed by Halesworth's very own Dr.
Ramsey, so they are state of art. Once you secure the 'belly'
around you, you will be unable to remove it until your 'water
breaks', at which time the belly will release electric pulses in
lieu of contractions and you are to come to this room. Your
labor will consist of watching a tape of someone else's."
"You're effing kidding me."
There went track practice. Her coach wouldn't be happy. Hell,
she wasn't happy. It wasn't that she really minded her partner.
She didn't. What she minded was being strapped to the belly
thing, unable to take it off. No freedom from it, even when she
slept. She looked over at Potter.
I hope he's good with ****y chicks. At least most of her
homework she could do sitting down. But she would have to go to
classes. She'd have to deal with the effing belly. AGAIN. She
would be bound to her ass for a week and it would drive her
absolutely bonkers.
At least it would only be a week. She sighed.
"Couple up, couple up! I want a budget worked up by Thursdays
class. You will not pass this assignment if you don't meet
outside of class. Remember that. Now, strap on your bellies and
let the project begin!"
She rolled her eyes and turned to her partner. "Potter, wasn't
it?"
