Computer games are getting bigger,
better and truly computer hogging
beasts, making it necessary to tune
up your computer for the best
computer gaming performance. This
article is for the gaming freaks who
really love their comuter games and
would like to wrench out every bit of
performance from their computer
for the best gaming experience...
Before we start a few tips on the
basics of computer gaming
performance, one of the most critical
components for your computer
gaming performance is the setting
of your video card, system
performance and the grapic settings
in the game. Always verify that the
system requirements for any game
you are going to use on your
computer, if your computers spec
doesnt meet the required specs of
the computer then these tips may
not work and you would need to
upgrade your computer.
Set Windows Visual Effects To Best
Performance
The computers visual performance is
governed by both the graphics card
driver and the Windows operating
systems settings. Adjust the
Windows settings to display effects
only when it won ’t have a significant
effect upon performance, this will
help you enhace your computer
gaming performance. To make this
change, right click on My Computer >
Properties > Advanced System
Settings > Performance Settings >
Visual Effects Tab > Click on Adjust
for Best Performance. This is the
same area where you go to adjust
the virtual memory.
Increase Windows Virtual Memory
Windows uses some hard drive
space to store temporary files when
running your computer, if this space
is low then windows needs to do a
lot of swapping of data hence
reducing the performance of the PC.
Increasing the virtual memory,
ensures that your games have access
to adequate memory and windows
does not need to do additional
swapping of data hence the
improving your computer gaming
performance. New computers do not
have a problem with this and the
Virtual Memory is generally handled
by Windows. But older systems
(with smaller hard drive) may have
this set only to 512MB. Change this
by, going to the Control Panel >
System > Advanced System Settings
> Performance Settings > Advanced >
Virtual Memory Change. Then,
change the amount to 3 GB and click
Set.
Get The Latest Version Of Your Video
Card Driver
Getting the latest version of the
video card driver not only improves
computer gaming performance, but
also fixs any know issues that the
video card driver has with any
particular games. To update the
graphics card driver, you can visit
the graphic card manufacturer ’s
website and search for the drivers.
All Hardware vendors provide their
hardware drivers for specific
operating systems at their site.
Download the graphic drivers and
install them on your computer.
Adjust Shadow Details For The Game
Games use a lot of added
performance to create the shadow
details, the shdow details give a
great gaming experience but will
have impact on computer gaming
performance. Adjusting the shadow
details in games significantly
improves the computer gaming
performance. You will need to
balance between the visual
experience and the gaming
performance by adjusting shadow
details. This is specific to each game,
but first you can make some general
shadowing changes through the
graphics card properties panel. This
will vary between graphics cards.
Generally, you can access them by
right-clicking on the Desktop and
choosing Graphics Properties.
Close Other Programs When Playing
Games
A simple and easy solution is to close
other programs when playing a
game. Especially do not let
background processes run, like if the
anti-virus scan is running in the back
ground then you definitely will have
problems with your computer
gaming performance.
Defragment Your Hard Drive
Defragment your Hard drive to
organize the files on your computer
on a regular basis. This is a very
simple thing to do to enhance your
computer gaming performance.
Most computer games are huge in
size, if the data is fragemented you
will loose computer performance
over aligning the fragmented blocks
of data during the game. To avoid
this fragment your hardrive on a
regular basis, this not only will
enhance your computer gaming
performance but will improve the
overall performance of your
computer.
Disable the Anti-Aliasing Function
ANTI-ALIASING can be turned down
or disabled to increase computer
gaming performance, but this will
reduce the visual effects of the game.
Adjust Graphic Settings For Each
Game
Games have their own graphics
settings and options. You can lower
some of these settings to improve
the computer gaming performance ,
in certain cases you may need to
lower the graphics effects to get a
playable performance. This way, you
can adjust each game to run better
on your computer. Optimize your
computer and windows settings
first, then adjust the game ’s video
settings only if you need to.
Game Patch Updates
Some games have issues with
certain video cards, so the game
manufacturer ’s release free patches
to improve stability and computer
gaming performance. Some games
do major updates automatically, but
in most cases, you will need to go to
the manufacturer ’s website and
download the patches manually.
Graphics Card Update
Last but not the least upgrading your
video card to a high speed video
card with a lot of video ram 512 MB
will definitely improve the computer
gaming performance and your
gaming experience.
This should definitely improve your
Computer Gaming Performance.
